About S.J. Maylee

S.J. Maylee fell in love with storytelling at a young age and with it came a deep-seated desire for everyone to find their happily ever after. She’s finding the happy endings for her characters one steamy story at a time. When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her caring for her garden, laughing with her two young sons, or dancing to her husband’s music. She’s a PMP (Project Management Professional), Nia instructor, and coffee addict. As a writer she has a tendency to break hearts, but she always glues them back together

Six Sentence Sunday #26

Happy Six Sunday. Did you miss me last week? Well, I missed you guys. Thanks for visiting this week and I’d love to know what you think!! I’m bringing you something new today, 6 from my latest Novella BDSM WIP. It’s a sequel to the WIP I have been sharing these past many weeks. All you need to know to get started: while in Chicago for a conference, Janna gets a chance to enter a BDSM club for the first time. She’s talking with security when a man enters the club.

“You’ll need to wait here for an escort, or…good evening, Master Simon. Would you like to escort our guest?”

Her heart skipped and she pushed the soles of her feet into the ground. He’s a Master, he’d be perfect.  It’s okay if he says no, a rejection from a stranger means nothing. Nothing.

Will Master Simon escort Janna, or will she have to keep waiting? Please come back next week. Thank you so much for stopping by today!! I’d like to know what you really think of my 6. I need the advice, I’m a newbie and have much to learn. Don’t forget to check out the other Six Sunday authors. Lots of good stuff at Six Sunday and its days are now sadly numbered. I’m not crying. Try to find a new favorite today. happy hunting!

ROW80 check-in #26

Getting back on track after a few crazy days out of town is hard work. The beginning of the week I struggled to stay on top of my evil day job and my volunteer-treasurer work. Did I let the pressure drive the week or did I find a way to sail through the muck?

The pressure got to me this week, but I kept going and fell short in the same areas as always. Frustration is not welcome here, so what am I going to do? I need one week where I reach the hard to reach tasks. My priorities are going to get thrown to the wind and this is how I’ll let things settle, for this week: No writing on the new WIP until the latest PM training is complete AND I make respectable progress on the next song in the Sanjana routine. Okay, I almost fainted, but I have to do this. Yes, I need to keep writing, but I need to get this training going and I cant apply for a job teaching Nia until I have one routine in me. A plan, I should feel better, ha, ha 🙂

Motivation Jars (14-goals in all & $7.50 is up for grabs each week): 12-goals had real good progress or they’re in line for progress, but in 2 (Sanjana bars and PMP continuing education) I didn’t get it done. Wardrobe Jar gets $6.43 (total so far: $19.29) and NOT my political party of choice jar gets $1.07 (total so far: $3.21)

The Goals – week-3 results

  • Spend at least 1-hour a day with my characters– done
  • Pick a title for Voyage Novu #1 & #2- I came up with several ideas on my drive over the weekend as planed, but nothing is sticking just yet, more pondering to do here.
  • Write 3,000 words each week or 33,000 for the round- done, I added 3,005 this week!!
  • Spend time editing at least 3 times each week- 3-days and another 25-pages done. Wahoo!!
  • Send Voyage Novu #1 to 2nd beta- my beta is going to RWA and if all goes well she’ll be reading on the plane! eek 🙂
  • Finish Editing Voyage Novu #1- to be done after feedback is received from 2nd beta
  • Voyage Novu#1 Query/Synopsis: finish, polish, get 2nd opinions, finalize AND send out 1st round- progress slow and steady this week. I’ll be able to give this item more attention once the draft is off to the beta.
  • Finish first draft of Voyage Novu#2 and begin to edit- at 3k per week this goal should beginning in Mid-August
  • Finish reading current craft book and start another- another chapter in 🙂
  • Workout a minimum of 200-minutes a week and round it out with plenty of water, sleep and my calorie limit- I hit my first goal this week. BMI is down to 23.7, a year ago it was 30.2. So now what, the final goal is on, the last 5-pounds. This week I stayed on track and after a handful more weeks I’ll be in official maintenance mode.
  • Study one of the Nia 52-moves each week- Upward Block: begin in the ready position = sumo position, elbows pulled in and back, palms up and forearms hugging the sides of the body. From the ready position pull the forearm up to protect your forehead with the bony side of your forearm facing towards your forehead (protect the bone) and back into the ready position. Repeat on both sides. Benefits: improves your ability to start and stop and builds your arm strength and speed.
  • Finish the Sanjana bars and start the Opal bars (i.e. studying the song/movement structure)- the first victim again. WEEK 4 PRIORITY
  • Finish needed continuing education, enter all credits on PMI site and save my PMP certification for another 3-years- victim  number two, again. WEEK 4 PRIORITY
  • Stay on top of my co-op preschool Treasurer responsibilities- I’m on top of this one. The tuition payments are in the bank and QuickBooks and had a good meeting with the accountant on Friday. Yeah.

Back to work for me. Good grief, I hope I get to write this week, hope you do too. Have a fabulous week.

Season 9 continues to be a winner. The show was knocked down to one show a week this season and the format changes really work for me, I’m quite pleased.

If you are only going to watch one performance from this week, this is the one. Sonya Tayeh’s choreography is somehow getting even better. Audrey and Matthew give a spectacular performance with countless moments of awesome. Enjoy.

Flash Fiction #16

Thanks for stopping. Another picture…another 100 words.

Carla fell on the bed in an exhausted heap. She doubted she’d make it another day in this heat. Visions of Adam filled her mind making fire pool between her legs. The phone rang startling her from her discontent.

“Hello”

“Are you naked yet?”

“Oh, Adam, pretty much. I’m laying her thinking of you in my underwear. It’s so hot.”

“Let me help, sweetheart. Get some ice.”

He directed her to drag a cube of ice from her shoulders down to between her breasts. Her nipples stung with intensifying need. Puddles flowed drowning her in the rising tides of ecstasy.

Spotlight: The Bank Job by Bonni Sansom Q&A and Giveaway

The Bank Job by Bonni Sansom

Releasing July 21, 2012 from Silver Publishing

Website ~ Blog ~ Facebook ~ Goodreads ~ Amazon ~ Twitter

Please help me welcome, fellow flasher and teaser, Bonni Sansom. She has a new book coming out in just two days. We have all kinds of yummies for you. Below you’ll find a Q&A, the blurb and excerpt for The Bank Job and details on another of Bonni’s books with the giveaway information, so don’t forget to comment!! You have until the end of the day Saturday, July 21st to comment and then I’ll utilize random.org to find the WINNER!! First Bonni’s going to hook us on The Bank Job.

When stubborn Kat and Dom Jarrod meet during a bank robbery, things quickly get heated. She refuses to be a victim and he just wants everyone to get out alive. Can Jarrod tame her before they both get killed?

Now you know a little why I wanted Bonni here celebrating her book. Let’s learn more about Bonni…

Question #1. Picture your favorite place in the world. Now, can you tell us a little bit about the place you’ve pictured?

Bonni: There’s a beautiful fountain in Ashley Park that I love to sit by and write. The trickling water is peaceful, and I  can really focus on my writing there.

Question #2. What was the first book to make a lasting impression on you?

Bonni: I know this is going to sound silly, but the real book that got my creative juices flowing and making me believe “if she can do it, so can I” was none other than Twilight. Now don’t get me wrong, I love books and I’ve been interested in them for life, but that one was “the one” that got me started.

Question #3. What was the last book you read that made a lasting impression on you?

Bonni: There are too many to answer this question. I thought about it for a while, and could only manage to dwindle it down to a handful, but then again, don’t all books leave a lasting impression?

Question #4. Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

Bonni: My first one wasn’t that hard to get published. I had a short story that a publisher was interested in, it was a short for a Christmas Anthology, but they turned it down and I submitted it to Renaissance eBooks Inc. and they said, “make it at least 30k” and I came back with 40k+ and they got Jack’s Christmas Wish out on Nov.11, 2011.

Question #5. Can you tell us about a criticism you’ve received that pushed you into a better writing place?

Bonni: Yes. Someone suggested my characters were a little bit bi-polar, so I have tried toning that down and putting the characters in the right frame of mind for the scene.

Question #6. Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

Bonni: In some of my books, for instance, Laine from Eternal Bliss is a lot like me. I would definitely be her BFF in real life. She enjoys a lot of the same things I do. And we both speak the same, so there ya go.

Question #7. Which one of your characters would you NOT like to meet in real life?

Bonni: Ha! To tell the truth it would have to be Kat from The Bank Job. She scares the shit out of me. I could never be as brazen or as bold as she is.

Question #8. Which one of your characters would you most like to meet in real life?

Bonni:  All of the men. Ha, ha! I definitely wouldn’t mind meeting the hero’s of my stories. They’re so sexy it hurts. And come on, they look, so freaking good to the mind’s eye.

Question #9. How did you come up with your title?

Bonni: In most cases I have a title before I have a book. The stories seem to come to me. I never have to spend time chasing an idea because it came to me in a dream or hit me in the shower. That is the truth so help me. I can be in the midst of a shower, rinsing out my hair and all the sudden I have characters (with names already) telling me their story. This happens so often that I bought kiddie crayons to write on the shower wall before I forgot it. My husband says there’s nothing like reading a sex scene when he gets in the shower.

Question #10. Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on now?

Bonni: Right now I have just finished my very first paranormal story. “Hunter’s Bounty” Hopefully this one will be in an anthology with three other very talented writers. I’m also working on the sequel to Eternal Bliss and I just turned in the second Redemption story and I’m just waiting to hear back from them. I have another 6 stories in the fire. All at different stages, so I have a lot on my plate at the moment.

Thanks, Bonni!! That was fun, but I want to read more about The Bank Job.

The Blurb:

Katherine ‘Kat’ Anderson goes to deposit her check and ends up in the middle of a bank robbery. She refuses to cower and will fight them to the bitter end—to the robbers she’s a pain in the ass, but to the manager she’s sexy as hell.

Jarrod Miller’s day started off bad and only gets worse when three armed men burst into the bank he manages. He does everything he can to ensure his customers get out alive, but pink-haired Kat seems determined to get them killed.

When they are locked in an office together, things start to heat up. Between Kat’s stubborn defiance and Jarrod’s Dom attitude, will they rip each other apart or just their clothes off?

The Excerpt:

Kat had sold her weight in dildos and other toys, but every time a butt plug landed on the counter in front of her, she blushed. She was definitely not used to blushing, but that night had changed something inside of her. Something she would deny until her dying breath—she really cared for Jarrod. They’d been talking on the phone as much as they could, having phone sex whenever possible. He was really good at getting her off with his words, which was weird because she hardly ever got off without a lot of stimulation. But when it came to Jarrod, the words from his mouth could get her off in just a few minutes. She was happy she had the same effect on him as he did her. They were evenly matched.

“Kat. Earth to Kat.” Marcus waved his hand in front of her face, trying to get her attention. “There’s a customer that needs help in the leather department.”

“Alright, sorry, I was just lost in thought.” Kat quickly rounded the counter to go help the guy that had his head stuck in a leather face mask. It was a common problem. They zip them up but can’t zip them back down. She sighed and approached the man cautiously. This mask didn’t have eye holes. “Sir, please just stand still and I’ll help you get the mask off.”

He stood still and held his arms out to her. He mumbled something she couldn’t understand, but she grabbed the zipper and slid it down. “Is that better?”

“Yes ma’am, I appreciate it.” His face was as red as a beet, but she didn’t dare laugh at him.

“Did you want to purchase the mask?” She knew the answer, but had to ask anyway.

“No, I don’t think so.” He blushed even further.

Marcus came over to her and whispered in her ear. “Loverboy is on the phone for you. I’ll take over here if you want me to.” She nodded and headed for the phone.

“Hey, what’s up?” She knew what he wanted. He was at home, off work and horny. She had gotten him off a couple times from work, but she couldn’t keep it up. She suspected Marcus was getting tired of it.

“You know what’s up. My cock is up and it wants to play with you.” He made a growling noise she loved.

“Alright, but this is the last time. I can’t keep doing this at work. I do have a serious job, you know.” She scoffed, knowing damn well he wouldn’t go for that line.

“You sell sex on a daily basis. You love making me come and you know it. Don’t bullshit me, Kat.”

“Okay, fine, I’m bullshitting you, but I really need to stop doing this at work. You can surely wait until I get off.”

“I’d love to wait till you get off. That way I don’t come first.” He chuckled.

“You know what I meant.”

“I do, but I couldn’t help myself.”

“I mean it. I can’t keep doing this here.” She huffed out a breath as she played with a clit stimulator that was purchased and brought back for a refund.

“Okay, I hear you. I won’t call you at work anymore, but since you’re off tomorrow, you could come here after I get off work and spend the night having sex. Sound good?”

She dropped the vibrator, it landed on the floor with a clatter. “Shit.”

“What’s the matter?”

“I dropped a clit stimulator. Hang on for a sec.” Kat put the phone on the counter and walked around, picking up the vibrator. She walked back around with the stimulator buzzing in her hand. The woman brought it back because it didn’t work, but drop it in the floor once and it buzzed away. Kat thought she might have to try one of these. She picked the phone back up. “Okay, you still there?”

“Where would I go, sweetheart?”

“Don’t call me that. It sounds so stupid. I’m no sweetheart.” She let the vibe buzz in her hand.

“What’s that noise?”

“It’s a vibrator. I was testing it. I might have to get me one of these things.” Kat touched the tip of it to her finger, feeling the vibrations, making her finger tingle. Yes, she would definitely have to get one of these.

“You don’t need a vibrator, Kat, you have me.” Jarrod cleared his throat.

“I won’t always have you. At some point we’re going to start feeling something and I don’t want that anymore than you do. So I’ll need a vibrator.”

“Are you coming over or not?”

He had that commanding voice he used in the bedroom. “Yes, Sir. I’ll come over after work.” She felt like she should snap to attention, but then laughed it off.

“Bring that vibrator with you. I’ll show you how to work it.”

“I’m pretty sure I can figure it out.” She turned it off and laid it down on the counter.

“I’m sure you could, but I bet I can show you ways you never would have thought of. Just bring it.”

“Alright, I’ll bring it. Geez, you sure are bossy.” She started to call him an asshole, but refrained.

“It’s my job.”

“I’ve got to go. There’s a customer that needs me.” She mouthed, “I’ll be with you in a sec”, to the customer. “I’ll see you after work, okay?”

“You bet your sweet ass you will. Remember where the key is?”

“Yes, I remember. Gotta go.” She hung up on him and headed for the customer.

I know, I know, you’ve got to wait two more days before you can read any more. Remember I know Bonni from flashing and teasing, ha, ha. But, wait, Bonni has something to giveaway. Take it away Bonni.

I just want to thank you SJ for allowing me the opportunity to get to know your fan base and I hope some of them try and enjoy my books. One lucky winner here will win a copy of Eternal Bliss if they leave a comment. Have fun and good luck.

I hope you enjoy the blurb and excerpt of The Bank Job, which will be out Saturday, July 21. On this link.

Thank you, Bonni, for stopping by my ehome today!! (((hugs)))

Tantalizing Tuesday #1

Tuesdays aren’t for flashing…they’re for teasing. The rules of TT: I get to select the picture and I get 200 words to tease. Just like on Fridays, I’m joined by several very talented writers, so don’t miss the links below.

Carey met him a year ago. It was John who bumped into her that day spilling water down her shirt. She giggled replaying their conversation once more in her head.

“It’s not that bad”

“What? You can see everything.”

“Yeah.” He patted her chest with a mass of napkins.

The day melted away as they walked the beach talking and ended with their bodies exploding together on the surf.

She moved to the beach the next day hoping to find him, but never found a clue. She built herself a pleasant life here, but still no John. She sat on the bench working up the courage to move on, they only had a day after all. Tears pressed against her lids. The rain clouds opened and encouraged the release of freighting emotions.

She got up and shuffled toward her car.

“Carey!”

She turned and saw what she’d been waiting for. A quake and a half broke through her chest and pushed her legs forward. She leapt into his arms and he caught her. His body pressed deliciously into hers. He claimed her mouth and his tongue stroked hers eliciting her need.

“You’ve been right here, my sweet?”

“Waiting for you”

Hope you enjoyed my tease today!! We’ll be seeing more of these two in the weeks ahead. Don’t forget to follow the link to get to the other TT posts. Tantalizing Tuesday. Or click away on the links below.

ROW80 check-in #25

Hi Six Sunday Friends. Thanks for checking on me, but I really didn’t join in the fun this week. I’m actually out of town. I’ll be checking on your posts tomorrow though and I’ll hop back in the fun next Sunday.

On to my check-in for ROW80. What’s Row80? A round of words in 80 days is the writing challenge that knows you have a life.

Second week into the new round and goal list could have very easily been a disaster. I’ve been out of town since early Friday afternoon. So disaster could have been an understatement, because inevitably in shortened weeks a slew of tiny things pop up. So how did I do? See the list below or I’m putting my motivation jar tallies right up top from now on.

Motivation Jars (14-goals in all & $7.50 is up for grabs each week): 12-goals had real good progress or they’re in line for progress, but in 2 (Sanjana bars and PMP continuing education) I just didn’t get it done. Wardrobe Jar gets $6.43 (total so far: $12.86) and NOT my political party of choice jar gets $1.07 (total so far: $2.14<–I really don’t like this)

The Goals – week-2 results

  • Spend at least 1-hour a day with my characters– done
  • Pick a title for Voyage Novu #1 & #2- I’m still liking the series name (The Love Projects) but I want to come at the titles from a new angle, i.e. looking at the series as a whole. I’m going to put my driving time to good use this weekend and pick this one apart.
  • Write 3,000 words each week or 33,000 for the round- done, I added 3,062 this week!!
  • Spend time editing at least 3 times each week- 3-days and another 24-pages done. Wahoo!!
  • Send Voyage Novu #1 to 2nd beta- If that editing goals stays on track this will happen, eek 🙂
  • Finish Editing Voyage Novu #1- to be done after feedback is received from 2nd beta
  • Voyage Novu#1 Query/Synopsis: finish, polish, get 2nd opinions, finalize AND send out 1st round- My pattern of tweaking at the end of my edit sessions is still working well here, yeah
  • Finish first draft of Voyage Novu#2 and begin to edit- at 3k per week this goal should beginning in Mid-August
  • Finish reading current craft book and start another- another chapter in 🙂
  • Workout a minimum of 200-minutes a week and round it out with plenty of water, sleep and my calorie limit- I’m getting back on track here, yahoo. Just 0.2 pounds more and I can start working on losing my final 5-pounds.
  • Study one of the Nia 52-moves each week- Hip Bumps: practice rocking your hips while keeping your upper body agile and connected to your lower body. Benefits: toning your core, defining your waist and increase mobility along your spine.
  • Finish the Sanjana bars and start the Opal bars (i.e. studying the song/movement structure)- the first victim, no one should be surprised here. I’m having a hard time getting to this task when I have a full week. WEEK 3 PRIORITY
  • Finish needed continuing education, enter all credits on PMI site and save my PMP certification for another 3-years- victim  number two, I need to pull out a big win her next week or I’ll get way off track. WEEK 3 PRIORITY
  • Stay on top of my co-op preschool Treasurer responsibilities- I’m on top of this one, I was well prepared for the board and parent meetings this week, but I’ve got a big week coming up with the first tuition payments coming in. Joy.

Back to work for me, well as soon as I get home. Hope you have a fabulous week.

Music from Jeff

He’s back this week giving you insight on another drum he admires

“Her Song” by Brian Blade, from the album “Mama Rosa”.

You should also look for the song “After the Revival”  I couldn’t find a video link for that one, but it’s my favorite song on that record.

Brian Blade is one of my favorite drummers.  I first heard of him as a jazz player in the early 90’s.  I’ve seen him play jazz and was absolutely blown away.  He’s such a passionate player – paying tribute to the legacy of music while still having his own voice.  That’s VERY difficult to do in jazz music because the legacy is so rich.

BUT THEN, I heard him playing with Seal.  I didn’t know how versatile. Again, blown away.

AND THEN, I heard him on an Emmylou Harris (folk singer) album.

AND THEN, I heard him with Joni Mitchell.

WHAT?!

This guy can do anything and still sound like himself.  That is incredibly rare and very special when you come across it.

THEN, he decides to make an album as a singer/songwriter.  Of course, I immediately bought it and again, I am blown away. Great songs, great guitar playing, great singing (very cool sounding voice) and, of course, great drumming. I think Brian was blessed with severe talent and a wonderful soul. He is also a part of the Black Dub group I’ve sent previously. Enjoy.

Flash Fiction #15

Thanks for stopping. Another picture…another 100 words.

Anne could count on one had the number of times she has cried. Today was number 5. She believed she was sturdy, made from hard circumstances, and capable of handling anything thrown at her. This first week with Joseph sparked a new light. He cracked her open sometime yesterday and now her submission rolled out in effortless waves.

It was a simple request.

“Let me hold you.”

For the first time she heard the truth behind his words, the truth so obvious in his eyes and his touch. She collapsed in his embrace and let him in, into her heart.

Six Sentence Sunday #25

Happy Six Sunday. Thanks for visiting and I’d love to know what you think!! I’m continuing this week with another 6 from my Novella BDSM WIP. Last week: Jake & Lydia arrived in her apartment after a long day of working together for the first time. Of course they spent much of the day fantasizing about each other. Jake has tested Lydia all afternoon and keeps finding her wanting. In last week’s 6 he made a decision to act on his desire, his desire to dominate her. This week: Lydia is still across the room, her back to him. She’s just turned on the light. We start with his order.

The low growl from deep within pushed out his words. “Remove your clothes.”

Silence filled the void in the room. Nothing moved except for the nerves running through him filled with rocket fuel, which catapulted his desire.

“Don’t turn around. Remove your clothes, place your hands on the couch, and your legs… separate them.”

There you have it, his order. I think he’s made it clear what he wants. But what will Lydia do? Just because an order mirrors your fantasy doesn’t mean you’ll do it.
