About S.J. Maylee

S.J. Maylee fell in love with storytelling at a young age and with it came a deep-seated desire for everyone to find their happily ever after. She’s finding the happy endings for her characters one steamy story at a time. When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her caring for her garden, laughing with her two young sons, or dancing to her husband’s music. She’s a PMP (Project Management Professional), Nia instructor, and coffee addict. As a writer she has a tendency to break hearts, but she always glues them back together

Six Sentence Sunday #49 The Right Thing

Last Week I gave you the opening 6 from my latest WIP, In the Blind (working title), the story of Jane and Rob. The current logline: When a head hunter finds her dream lover in a night of pitch black unrestrained passion, she fears she’ll never find him again. Fate steps in and throws the two together, but they might never discover the truth and stay in the blind.

I’ll continue with this story through the end of Six Sunday. This week I’ve skipped just a couple of paragraphs. The ladies are about to be escorted one by one into their rooms for the evening.

The room filled with screams from all the ladies as they danced into line, while Jane wondered, for the tenth time that day, if she was doing the right thing. Was this the best place for her to kiss her sexual slump goodbye? Anne, her best friend from forever, swore by the club. Jane didn’t want to take all the emotion out of the act, but she needed to get out of her own way and remember how freeing release could be. It had been months since her last orgasm. Of course, having her ex-boyfriend tell her she was a sexual deviant and unattractive hadn’t done her any favors.

Hope you enjoyed my six today. Remember, I’m the newbie, please share your advice. Thanks for stopping by today. Don’t forget to check out the other Six Sunday authors.Try to find a new favorite 6 today.

ROW80 check-in #45 Something is Working

Each round I take what works and leave the rest behind. Through the four rounds last year I discovered, although I can write in the afternoon, I make the most progress in the morning, before I dive into evil day job monotony. I’m thankful I have a job and family that allow me this kind of flexibility. Over each round of 80-days I’ve tweaked my morning routine and this round is no different.

I’ve shifted my schedule once again and made time for reading my writing craft book before I dive into writing for the day. Read on to see how it worked out.

The Goals – week-1 results

  • Spend at least 1-hour a day with my characters- done
  • Daily progress in writing craft, word count, editing, and/or plotting- I wrote everyday this week and added 3,255 words. A little everyday, not bad for my first week back at it. The real win here is that I read from my current craft book a little bit everyday. Woot! I didn’t spend a lot of time each day, but I did make steady progress. I hope to finish this book next week, now that I’m almost half way through it, and get back to my Margie packet.
  • Workout a minimum of three times a week and round it out with plenty of water, sleep and my calorie limit- done, huge improvement over the last two  weeks
  • Daily Nia study (i.e. studying the song/movement structure)- I didn’t hit this everyday, but I did get two-days in. I need to fine tune my schedule to give this goal a fighting chance.
  • Stay on top of my co-op preschool Treasurer responsibilities- crazy busy week  for this goal, but I finished all my reports and provided the numbers our parent population needed to approve a new class for this coming fall. Yeah!  I wish I could say next week will be better, but nope, the next several weeks will be ugly. I’ll need to keep this in mind as I plan out my days.
  • Organize something in the house each week- I made significant progress this week. I organized the front closet and one junk drawer in the kitchen, that leaves one more junk drawer to go…in the kitchen 😉

I feel like I made significant forward movement this week and that makes me very happy. I’m ready to take on week 2, where once again, I’ll keep what works and leave the rest behind. Here we go.

But, before you go, check out what you might have missed here this week:

@Naomishaw6

Please help me welcome Naomi to my ehome. Her latest release is one hot read and it sounds like there is more to come, fabulous. Take it away Naomi, my ehome is yours.

First off, I must thank you for hosting me on my tour of promotion. I am excited about this book, Unexpected Lessons, which is the first of a series.

First off, though, let me tell you a little about myself.

I had a strict upbringing and attended a church school. Despite huge health setbacks, I left school at 16 with a handful of exam passes and the ability to play a brass instrument, which I continue to embrace.

I had a fun, if interesting time at college, learning accounting, as I was put into a class of 13 men and no other women. I have memories of that time which may sneak their way into future books LOL.

I’ve always loved reading and had a secret desire to write. I finally plucked up the courage with help from a few friends online, after I had to leave work (health reasons again). I had worked as a receptionist at a doctor’s surgery for over 20 years.

I have been married to a wonderful man for 25 years.  We had one child, a daughter, now 23 years old and flown the nest. Hey, I’m giving my age away here LOL.

So then, on to the writer in me.

Naomi Shaw is the alter ego of a married English woman who, despite being a romantic at heart has a desire to pen naughty fantasies. After starting to write erotica three years ago quite by accident, she continued writing and expanded it, exploring the many different sides of erotica. Looks can be deceiving. To look at Naomi you would never believe the wild sexy stories that lie hidden in her mind, waiting to surface.

Now on to my book Unexpected Lessons

I originally submitted this with a slightly different title in the first half of the year to Naughty Nights Press for an anthology call. However, I got an email asking me to extend the story for a book in its own right. I added more scenes and doubled the length. I was so thrilled when Unexpected Lessons was accepted. The release date is 31 December 2012.

BLURB:

Kyla Morgan a twenty-year old hardworking student is studying for a science degree at university has a secret crush on her teacher, Professor Cordon, and spends many a night fantasizing about him. Kyla enjoys an early morning, frantic masturbation session to the image of her Professor, never dreaming she’d have a chance to make her dreams real. But, later, during classes, Professor Cordon asks Kyla to stay behind to speak to him after class about her issue with inattention. With the door closed and blinds drawn Kyla sees a different side to him; one she very much enjoys. Especially when she finds out this is not going to be a one-time thing.

Kyla shares a room with her friend Bev, a sassy girl from a farming family. What she does not know is that Bev longs to have an intimate relationship with her. Kyla has also always harbored the secret desire to know a woman. They share a glass of wine and relax while in their room one evening and a natural progression leads Bev to fulfill both their desires. Bev introduces Kyla to how wonderful it can be in a steamy girl on girl session that teaches her so much more than she ever expected.

In this excerpt, Kyla is alone with Professor Cordon. She is on her knees, feasting her eyes on his hard cock.

EXCERPT:

Kyla grasped his legs, steadying herself while she went up on her knees again. She never took her eyes off his thick cock, watching the way he lovingly stroked the twitching member. He lured her closer with the mix of saline and musk; a pearl of precum appeared and hypnotized her. She caressed his rod with both hands. “Mmmm,” she murmured, flushed with desire. She fondled, caressed, and toyed. The professor groaned.

“Let me taste, sir,” she implored.

Professor Cordon’s breathing changed, became shallow and he grasped hold of the desk, panting, “Yes, girl. Do it now.”

Kyla held his member gently in one hand, the other tickling his balls. Her tongue glided around his cock, not wanting to miss any part of it. Paying special attention to the pulsing head, she pressed with the flat of her tongue, then licked and tickled him. Lifting the thick member up, she ran the tip of her tongue along the purple vein that throbbed underneath, then all along him. The scent of his sex filled her nostrils. She licked the leaking musk liquid from him, smacking her lips.

“Yum,” she uttered.

“Jesus Christ! Suck the thing,” he yelled, with flaying nostrils. His toes curled and his fingers dug into the desk hard.

Kyla let the cock enter her mouth, just a little. Teasing the professor, she let it rest on her tongue for a few moments before closing her lips around his throbbing cock. Stretching her fingers up his length, she threaded the tips through the springy curls of his pubic hair, tickling and making him jump.

He pushed her head closer to him so she took almost the full length. “Take the whole thing,” he commanded.

Kyla grabbed hold of the professor and bobbed her head up and down, the rod going to the back of her throat almost gagging her.

“That is it, girl. Open your throat, fuck me hard.”

She sped up and the professor’s moans turned into groans. He grabbed Kyla’s hair, pulling the ponytail out and then winding his fingers round her long strands, jerked sharply. The more he pulled her, the faster she bobbed. His body suddenly went rigid and the dynamo of electricity that had surged through his entire body came to a climax. His balls became rock hard and his cock swelled in Kyla’s mouth.

“Fuck, I’m going to come,” he shouted. “Swallow my cream, girl.”

Kyla nodded, her head bobbing furiously.

“YESSSSSS,” Professor Cordon called out, his cry reverberating off the walls. “FUCK.” His pupils dilated, his eyes rolled back and the orgasm took control of his rigid body.

I’m thrilled to have Angela Quarles with me today. I’ve gotten to know Angela’s work though Six Sunday. Her sixes are always witty and fun, she’s a must stop for me each Sunday. I jumped at the chance to have her here today and I gave her ten questions. Her answers are entertaining, you won’t want to miss them, or the blurb for her new release and her bio is down their too, with her social media links. Enjoy. Oh! Be sure to come back up top for the buy links when you’re done. I read “Beer and Groping in Las Vegas” yesterday and loved it, 5-stars all the way. I’m hoping for more Beer and Groping, series please. 🙂 Well done, Angela.

10-QUESTIONS:

Picture your favorite place in the world. Now, can you tell us a little bit about the place you’ve pictured?

I’m actually living in one of my favorite places! I moved to Mobile, AL in 2009 to live in our old family home and so I’m the fifth generation to live here. It’s a decaying old Southern house that has exercised my imagination and that of my cousins ever since we were little.

Can you tell us about a criticism you’ve received that pushed you into a better writing place?

I think early on, it was hearing that certain things I wrote were examples of telling. Now, I’d already been reading that I should be telling, not showing, and thought I was doing that, but in these particular cases it was a very subtle difference and it drove me to learn more about what they meant. I remember looking at a sentence marked as “telling” and literally scratching my head and wondering how, since I was ‘in the moment’ and ‘showing’ things. This led me to discovering Deep POV and striving to get as much in the heads of my characters as I possibly can through word choices.

How do you come up with your titles?

I wrote a blog post recently on Jillian Chantal’s blog, The Case for an Awesome Title: Why It’s Important and How to Come Up With One,but in short, they come to me now during the brainstorming phase. I say ‘now’ because MUST LOVE BREECHES did not come to me until the third draft. However, after I got my brain tuned to the idea that I needed good titles, they’ve come either before the story idea or during brainstorming (so far!). BEER AND GROPING IN LAS VEGAS, which released less than a month ago, is the only one where the title came first. I work in a bookstore and was trying to think of possible titles for a new project (but one I didn’t have a premise for yet), and was shelving some Hunter S. Thompson, and I was like hmm, what could be a twist off of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and first I was like Beer and Loathing, but I write lighthearted romances, and then ‘groping’ popped into my head. In the next instant I had the hero, as I thought he should be a microbrewer, and that the heroine would be an overworked software programmer. Once I had that, things started falling into place, including the description for him of being a geek trapped in a good ole boy’s body. I had that tagline for him before I even started writing the story. The genesis for MUST LOVE BREECHES, was the same as BEER. I was wandering around the aisles of the bookstore, straightening up and looking at titles for inspiration and saw Must Love Dogs, and “Must Love Breeches” just popped into my head.

What turns you on creatively?

Probably reading, both fiction and non-fiction. Also just observing others around me and letting my mind wander. I love doing What If exercises.

What quality do you most admire in yourself?

Er, man, I’m not sure. I guess actually the aspect I like the most about myself is sometimes the one I hate the most. I have a tendency to get obsessed with things and pore all my energy into it. This can be incredibly beneficial, but sometimes I forget there’s a whole world out there that I should be participating in. I can also lose my focus on that ‘project’ and have a hard time finding that same intense obsession I’d had for it.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I’ve always wondered if I’d have been a good archaeologist or linguist. I love getting to the origins of things and both of these would have answered that desire.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I probably over indulge in books. Every once in a while, I’ll splurge on a computer game 🙂

Tell us one thing that’s on your bucket list?

Going on an archaeological dig, preferably in Egypt! Also to be photobombed by Nathan Fillion.

What is your favorite music (genre/artist/album/song)?

I love the Cowboy Junkies…

Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on now?

I’m needing to revise two novels, one a steampunk romance called STEAM ME UP, RAWLEY, and the other is a meta fiction romance called NOT ANOTHER DARCY. Right now I’m in the pre-plotting phase for the sequel to MUST LOVE BREECHES, my time travel romance. This is the novel for which I landed an agent back in October.

BLURB:

Can a djinn and a magic slot machine bring two geeks together?

Riley McGregor is a geek trapped in a Good Ole Boy body and as owner of a microbrewery, smart chicks never look at him twice.

Rejected by a geek who wanted to “trade up,” Mirjam Linna would rather immerse herself in work than be the girlfriend-of-the-moment. Stranded in a Vegas hotel, she makes a wish—a night of hot sex with the man of her dreams. It’s granted. She agrees to dinner, but afterward, she’ll say thanks, but no thanks, and see what’s on the SyFy channel. But when they meet, they’re surprised to find they had a shared connection in their past. Sparks fly as these two learn to be in the moment, be themselves and find love.

Fans of Star Trek, Star Wars, Monty Python, Firefly and Marvin the Martian will enjoy this romantic comedy.

Review Prophecy of the Undead by Fiona McGier

Prophecy of the Undead

by Fiona McGier

Length: 143 pages
Release Date: November 7, 2012
Publisher: Eternal Press
Genre: Paranormal Romance w/a touch of Syfy

BLURB:

Keisha is a neurobiology researcher determined to discover the secret to intelligence to save humanity from itself. What she learns leads her to realize a bigger threat comes from beyond the stars. Yuri is a Russian vampire whose long-dead feelings respond to the scientist whose brain he admires but whose curves he can’t resist. Will his love reach the places in her heart that she has ignored for so long? And can they defeat the prophecy of the undead to find happiness sharing eternity?

SJ’s REVIEW:

Prophecy of the Undead starts like a freight train. The heroine trusted the wrong person and now her life is in jeopardy. Thank goodness she has a secret admirer who just happens to be a vampire. The start is fast past, exciting and romantic, although the romance does continue, it’s nothing like in these first pages when they’re first falling for each other. The next section is full of mystery and once again the heroine’s life is threatened, but by her own hand. She’s not crazy, there is some scary evil behind it, you’ll have to read the story to figure that part out. It’s chilling. There is also a climatic end and setup for more to come.

There are a handful of sex scenes and they’re all very well written. The conflict is heavy and well placed, nothing feels forced. the story reads faster in some places than others, but the whole is a very intriguing read. The genre is a bit of a mix, the syfy is there, but definitely not a huge part of the book which leans more towards the paranormal and the vampire skills in Fiona’s world. Her spin is fun. I liked it, it’s a solid 4.0. You should think about reading it too.

Six Sentence Sunday #48 In the Blind

It’s a new year and time for something fresh and new. I’ll give you  a taste of my newest WIP in these last weeks of Six Sunday.

In the Blind (working title) is the story of Jane and Rob. I have a working logline too: When a head hunter finds her dream lover in a night of pitch black unrestrained passion, she fears she’ll never find him again. Fate steps in and throws the two together, but they might never discover the truth and stay in the blind.

Hope I’ve got you intrigued. Here’s the first 6.

The room was quiet except for the sounds of a dozen women taking off their clothes. Jane slid the final button on her blouse through the hole and enjoyed the slip of the silky fabric as it caressed her shoulders. The last worry from work and botched relationships slide away with the fabric to the bright white floor.

Tonight she’d let go like Adam never allowed her to. Over the last few months, she’d dated several nice guys, but each time they made a move, she’d flinched. She was done thinking her needs were dirty, done thinking she was dirty.

Hope you enjoyed my six today. Remember, I’m the newbie, please share your advice. Thanks for stopping by today. Don’t forget to check out the other Six Sunday authors.Try to find a new favorite 6 today.

ROW80 Round 1 2013 A New Routine

This is my second time in Round 1. I started my ROW80 journey a year ago with one goal, a time commitment. I asked for one hour of everyday and soon that request became routine. Now, I want to see what else I can make a habit. It’s so easy for a day to fly away never to been heard from again, it happens to me over and over.

For the last couple of rounds of 80-days I’ve seen my  time commitments to my Nia studies and writing craft dwindle and I no longer feel the forward movement. My efforts with these two seem to affect all my other goals. Now is the time for serious action. Now, at the beginning of a new year. I will attempt change. I’ve made changes to my routine over the last few years, I know I can do it. The evil day job seems to be under control again. Now is the time to seize the day.

Work hard and play later is my pledge. Craft first, write second.

What do I want this round? Regardless of the activity, I want to see progress every day. Everyday I will make time for the things I love. Everyday I will enjoy life, I will write…or edit, or plot.

The Goals

  • Spend at least 1-hour a day with my characters
  • Daily progress in writing craft, word count, editing, and/or plotting
  • Workout a minimum of three times a week and round it out with plenty of water, sleep and my calorie limit
  • Daily Nia study (i.e. studying the song/movement structure)
  • Stay on top of my co-op preschool Treasurer responsibilities
  • Organize something in the house each week

Here’s to a fabulous round of 80-days.

“I’ve changed my mind, I want red instead.”

“Jerry.”

“What, come on, you’re standing right over me, how can I not look?”

She inched her skirt up a little higher. “You like the red ones?”

New Year Resolutions 2013

Fireworks by Melissa Bowersock

Fireworks by Melissa Bowersock

Today we start a new year. As Anne would say, “…isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” Yes, it is a beautiful thought, Anne, one that I hope to remember this year as I keep working towards my goals.

Wikipedia lists several origins in New Year Resolutions and the knights “peacock vow” has got to be my favorite: In the Medieval era, the knights took the “peacock vow” at the end of the Christmas season each year to re-affirm their commitment to chivalry. What a thought, all those swoon worthy knights making their commitments, very nice.

Okay, yes, getting off track. Where was I? Oh!

This year has no mistakes in it yet and that’s romantic too, but I’m not searching for perfection here. Nope, I don’t want to set impossible goals. I want to do what I can to keep my feet moving forward, forward towards my goals. I want my eyes to stay open and not shadowed by negative thinking.

My Grandpa has a motto: work hard and play later. I try to live by his pledge and I do pretty well. It’s important to remember the play is just as important as the work, you need both to keep moving forward. Last January I joined ROW80 and I will continue with them this year, fabulous group. The pattern and routine works for me. Wiki Answers says it can take 21 times before something becomes a habit and I believe it, something to ponder in the weeks ahead. But, what do I want my goals for the year to be?

I want to do more with my writing, I want to do more with Nia, I want to be healthy, I want to live life to its fullest and I want to be happy. <– That’s a mountain of a list. I’ll break it down in my ROW80 posts, but I’ll make my main goals here.

SJ’s 2013 New Year Resolutions:

  • Participate in ROW80 and work EVERY day on plotting, word count, editing, or craft.
  • Recommit to my healthy journey and lose that last 5-pounds, after the holidays it’s probably more like 10-pounds.
  • Recommit to my Nia training and spend time with my studies EVERY week.
  • Read more. I read 53 books in 2012, I’d like to blow that number up in 2013.
  • Find time for the things I enjoy outside of books and Nia, like downhill skiiing, biking, walking on the beach, gardening, and visiting with friends. Take time each week to make sure one of these things is on my calendar.
  • Stop and smell the roses, literally and figuratively.
  • Get a tattoo 🙂

It may be a short list, but it’s packed with all the things that will make 2013 my best year ever. I’ll remember it takes 21 repetitions before my new normal becomes habit and each day is fresh and new waiting for me to try again. I will keep trying. I will move forward.

Are you making a list this year? How are you going to keep yourself moving forward? Regardless, I hope this is your best year ever.

Happy New Year!!!
