Flash Fiction #53 – Stay

Thanks for stopping. Another picture…another 100 words.

January 3, 2014

All week Shelly had draped her body over the cushioned stage and each day she’d hoped to catch the eye of one painter, but each day ended the same. No conversation, just breathtaking art with her as the subject.

Today, she took a risk and wore the dress with the ridiculously sexy neckline. Her breasts threatened to spill out. She didn’t care.

Marco’s gaze caught hers and for a minute she kept him with her. When his brush started again, a tingle danced along her cleavage, as if his brush stroked her flesh.

“Everyone out.” Marco pointed to her. “Stay.”

In the City of Kalaydan, Arrinay and Bezhyanya, the senior members of the ruling family, are faced with the early maturation of their daughter, Gayadnae. She must start the training. She must start the training. It’s Kalaydan law. Their daughter has other ideas. After concocting a plan to avoid responsibility and almost succeeding in carrying it out, Gayadnae’s life takes an unexpected turn. Grayt, the ever-present serving woman to Arrinay, fills many roles and has her fingers in a number of pies. There’s definitely more to her than is apparent on the surface. Along with coordinating activities in the Main House, keeping the young mistress in line, and talking to horses, Grayt has a more secret agenda with a graver responsibilities.
A hint of trouble on the horizon and other darker activities weave their way through the backdrop of this delightful tale which takes place in the city of Kalaydan.
Excerpt
Grayt dashed up the stairs lightly. Running quietly down the dark corridor, she came to the entrance of the receiving room of Arrinay and her family and entered the spacious chamber. The sound of amorous activity issued from the curtained room ahead. She walked instead into the room on the right. The curtains billowed violently, though without sound, into the room in which she stood. An intense, blue glow radiated from beyond the curtain.
It’s happening again. I don’t know how much more she can take.
Grayt stepped behind the curtain into the violence of the churning Gaichi energies and was nearly pulled from her feet. Moving further into the room, she tripped on a couple of clothing items littering the floor and nearly fell. The young woman on the bed writhed and contorted in her sleep as the powerful energies circulated through her and around her. The room stank of perspiration and clothing in need of laundering. Grayt gripped the crystal which hung about her neck and closed her eyes. Soon an angry, fire-red energy flared from between her tightly closed fingers. The light continued to intensify, swirling within the blue energies, only to disappear. She stretched her arms out to either side and began to turn widdershins. Her turning quickened and soon became spinning. She blurred like the turning of a child’s spindle. The Gaichi followed her into the maelstrom she had created and engulfed her. Seeming at first to consume the small woman, they were soon absorbed by the red force which had seeped out and wrapped around both her and the Gaichi. She was embraced by her own fire-red energy. As the red force wrapped more tightly around her, Grayt absorbed the Gaichi energies and her crystal reabsorbed her own fire-red energy. The room became dark as pitch.

An EXCLUSIVE Excerpt from UNTANGLE ME :

Seth walked out of her office and her life. Ivy was confident she’d done the right thing. A few minutes in his presence and she was working chains and affairs into her sentences. Not only was he was out of her league, but she was pretty sure mister professional would be uncomfortable with her sexual preferences.

“What were you thinking? You don’t have any appointments today,” Candy said.

“It’s for the best. He might be interested now, but not after he gets to know me.” She rubbed at her forehead. “Maybe I will take the rest of the day off. Suddenly, my head is killing me.”

“Good for you. Fridays are the best for taking off early.” She pointed her pen right at Ivy. “Maybe after a day off you’ll start making sense again, because right now, I’m only hearing crazy talk.” She got up and walked into Ivy’s office.

“Nice.”

“You always told me to be honest,” she said as she came back with Ivy’s purse.

“I did. I see now how that’s backfiring on me.” Ivy took her purse. “See you Monday. Call me if anything comes in and don’t forget to check new clients against the black list.”

“Ugh.” Candy threw up her hands. “That’s what I forgot to do last week. I’m so sorry.”

“That’s okay, but don’t forget to go back and check everyone.”

“I’m going to do that today. I promise.” Candy ran around the desk and wrote on the notepad.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s hard when things get busy.”

“Thank you. Now, get out of here and go have some fun.”

“Will do,” she said with the biggest smile she could muster. Ivy grabbed the dollar bill from the vase and walked out of the office.

She hadn’t taken an afternoon off in over a year. It felt like she was playing hooky and she had no idea what to do. All her friends were working. Shopping alone was no fun.

Maybe she could pick up an extra training session at Club Voyage. Ivy had only joined the BDSM club a couple months ago, after an enlightening conversation with her cousin’s girlfriend, but it was the first time her sexual preferences had made any sense. The dues were steep and worth every penny. It was the one luxury she indulged in.

She sent a text to her trainer, Master Marcus and walked out the front door. Sunshine heated her skin. She stopped and smiled up at the sky taking in the moment. What a beautiful day.

“Someone must have canceled on you.”

She lowered her head and spotted Seth standing next to a sleek black car. Heat lit up her cheeks. Maybe if she didn’t move, she could blend into the pavement and disappear, never to be seen again.

“Please tell me someone had the bad taste to cancel because I know you didn’t just lie to me, right?”

“I thought you would have been gone already.” She clasped a hand over her mouth.

“That’s fine.” His easy smile told her he wasn’t lying either. “I’d rather you be honest with me, even if it does hurt my feelings.”

“I’m sorry. I’m not sure how that slipped out.”

“I’m not sorry. Now you can make it up to me.” He opened his car door. “I’m taking you to lunch.”

She swallowed the lump in her throat. His smile was gone. It was no longer a question. She soaked in his command and stepped into his car without thinking it through.

Excerpt:
Beneath glistening chandeliers, the dancers spun to the strains of a Handel waltz. Strathairn smiled down at his partner, her slim waist beneath his hand as they danced. Lady Sibella Winborne looked like a delicate flower in a gauzy pale gown covered in amber blossom. White ostrich feather plumes adorned her luxuriant dark locks. He enjoyed looking at her. Her serene oval face lifted and she smiled at him, her mouth wide and full. Too wide for beauty some might say, but made for kissing. She had inherited her mother’s famous eyes, a delectable mix of blue and green, but her nature was quieter, lacking the vivacity of her mother in her youth, who was said to have had men falling at her feet. He admired Sibella’s calm beauty, but she was oh, so much more: practical, poised and intelligent. Yet still unmarried, which surprised him.
“You arrived late tonight. I wasn’t sure you’d come,” she said.
“I was tied up with business.”
          “Not parliament?”
          “No.”
She tilted her head. “Your horses, then?”
He grinned at her blatant curiosity. “No.”
          “You won’t tell me.”
          “No.”
Sibella laughed with good humor. “Very well. Might I find you riding in Hyde Park tomorrow?”
          “I hope to.”
Her delicate brows rose. “If business doesn’t keep you.”
          He laughed. “Precisely.”
The music faded away. Strathairn escorted her back to her chair where her mother, the Dowager Marchioness of Brandreth, sat fanning herself among the other dowagers. He bowed, planning to slip into the rooms set aside for gambling. As much as he might wish to dance with Sibella again, it would place them under scrutiny, and faro was an effective release from the tension he always carried with him.
“Don’t rush off, Strathairn,” her sharp-eyed mother said. “We have seen little of you of late. You rarely frequent these affairs.” She waved her fan in an arc to encompass the ballroom. “Where have you been hiding?”
“Not hiding, my lady, merely visiting my estates.”
Lady Brandreth adjusted the silk shawl over her shoulders. “Did you include that pile of yours in Yorkshire? I enjoyed the hunt ball, but it’s cold as charity in winter up in those parts.”
“Not this time, but I miss it. There’s a wild beauty to the dales in winter, quite unlike southern England.”
“I daresay.” Her purple turban wobbled as she nodded. “You are a fine figure of a man, Strathairn. What are you now? Six and thirty? You should marry. You should be setting up your nursery.” She gestured toward her daughter sitting beside her. “Sibella will bear you healthy children. The Brandreths come of good stock, and the Wederells even better.”
“Mama, please!” He caught Sibella’s apologetic gaze and suppressed a wry smile. Her plea would have little effect; the marchioness was known to be one of the most colorful and outspoken members of the ton.
The dowager batted her daughter’s protest away with her fan. “I am merely speaking the truth, Sibella.”
“Your daughter is a credit to you, my lady,” he said with a smile. “She has inherited both your beauty and intelligence.”
“Now you are toad eating.” A roguish smile lit Lady Brandreth’s face. “You always were a charmer. Sibella is intelligent. Walk with her on the terrace to discover it for yourself.”
          “I should be delighted.”

“Is there anyone in here? Call out.”

She’d yet to gather all her memories and she’d be damned if she’d call out before she was ready.

The door behind her cracked and split in two. She turned to her bag and shoved in the picture of her parents.

“The fire’s coming. Let’s go.”

“Not yet.” This fucking world had taken enough from her. “Just one more picture, please.”

He hauled her over his shoulder and tipped her world over. “It’s not worth losing you.”

She wiggled and swung her bag at him.

He slapped her ass. “Enough, I’ve got you.”

EXCERPT:

I didn’t want to hold back anymore. I wanted her to be mine again, body and soul. Cradling the back of her head, I drew her mouth toward mine and kissed her with all the desire I’d kept bottled up for all those weeks. Her lips were soft against mine but as eager and passionate as I slid my tongue into her mouth to find hers. When she sighed into my mouth, I couldn’t wait anymore.

My hands clawed at the zipper down the back of her dress, but it got stuck an inch from the top. Aching to be inside her, I tore the two halves of the dress apart, ruining the zipper and the dress.

“Tristan, my dress!” she cried as I pulled it from her body.

“I don’t care. I’ll buy you ten dresses just like it,” I panted as I unhooked her bra and slid the first strap over her shoulder. “Same thing with the bra. And if these panties don’t come off easy, I’m going to rip through them too.”

Nina’s fingers tore through my shirt buttons until it hung open, and I quickly shrugged out of it. She was as desperate as I was to be out of those damn clothes. In seconds, she had my belt off and my pants and boxer briefs off my legs, and I had her pushed up against the wall.

As I lifted her off the ground to wrap her legs around my waist, I pressed my forehead to hers and rasped, “I hope you weren’t expecting something slow and gentle. I can give you that, but tonight I don’t want to wait. I need to be inside you, Nina.”

Moaning, she pulled me close, but just then I remembered her sore ribs. Pulling back, I said, “I forgot about what the doctor said. Maybe we should go easy this time.”

She dug her heels into my lower back and pulled my mouth to hers in a deep kiss. Her voice husky, she groaned, “Please, Tristan. I’m not a china doll. I’ll tell you if something hurts.”

I gently slid just the head of my cock into her, still worried I might hurt her if I didn’t take it slow. My body was in agony wanting to bury myself inside her, but I didn’t want to risk bruising those already sore ribs. I could give her gentle, even if every part of me wanted much more.

Nina pushed her palms against my chest and held me away from her. Worried I’d already screwed this up, I opened my mouth to apologize but she touched her finger to my lips to stop me. “Don’t make me wait. I don’t want gentle now. I want you…all of you.”

Her fingers pressed into the back of my neck as I plunged balls deep into her wet and willing cunt. Nothing in the entire world ever felt better than that moment when our bodies joined together as one again. Her body was hot and enveloped me, taking my body to places I thought only existed in my imagination.

Title: Alex’s Destiny

Author: Amy Gregory

Publisher: Self

Length: 243 pgs (print edition)

BLURB:

Her destiny was written for her, long before she was ever born. She embraced it, wanting nothing more than to give everything within her back to the sport in which she was con- sidered royalty. Her family’s legacy would live on, revered by all. And she thrived on the long work days she spent teach- ing at the academy her blood was tied to. Alexandra Sterling needed that dirt track as much as she needed her next breath. That same track was the one that drew in a young student years before. Alex had given her heart away the day they met, knowing that he belonged to only her. For years she’d waited, knowing without a single doubt that he’d make her his when the time was right.

But…she’d never asked Dallas if he felt the same way.

Her hurt leaves her vulnerable, her days dark and her in- stincts dulled. After one night of hell, Alex is lost. Her world is crumbling around her, and without her lifeline and best friend beside her anymore, there’s nothing to keep her from

Dallas Hunter is a pro rider on the motocross circuit, following in the footsteps of his father Eli. For Dallas, it’s always been Alex, but he’s kept his feelings locked away out of fear, his love for their family, his biggest obstacle. One short and chilling phone call to her puts him on high alert. Knowing something is terribly wrong sends him racing across the country, back home, back to her. But what he finds almost kills him.

Now he’s watching her slip away right before his very eyes. Figuring out how to help Alex before it’s too late, might turn out to be harder than any race he’s ever ridden. And he has to do it with his team and sponsors screaming at him from the other side, trying to pull him back to the world he’s dedicated his entire life to. Dallas knows he has to help his best friend, the woman he loves…and do it without tearing his family apart.

EXCERPT:

Years of roaming every inch of the Noland property left an intricately detailed map ingrained in her head, memorized for life. Instead, she stayed, not wanting to be rude to her family. As she stood there, the sun gave way to the moon. The dark purple lining the horizon was the only evidence it left behind. She couldn’t help but feel her heart break. Not the earth-shattering pain of a sudden loss, or that at the mercy of death, but a slow, piece-by-painful piece kind of heartache.

The kind where emotions whirled around inside her, at war with one another. Feeling stupid, desperate, and confused, she tried to remember when she knew. There wasn’t some crystal clear moment. Not a black and white answer. Dallas had just always been hers. She never questioned it, never saw their ages as an obstacle, and until this week, she didn’t think he had either. Alex just knew Dallas would wait for her.

That was what hurt the most. Well, two things actually. Being wrong—and being empty.

For the first time she felt hollow and questioned her entire path. Her foot slipped, landing hard on the ground below the fence. She shook her head and closed her eyes. It was supposed to be Dallas. He would retire from racing and join the staff of the academy.

They were supposed to have the big white wedding. They’d spend their years teaching side-by-side as the fairy tale ending lived on around them.

There’d been no question in her mind over the years. All she knew was there wasn’t supposed to be a different woman in her spot by his side. Feeling the sting, she screwed her eyes tighter then swiped at the tears that fell, despite her best effort to prevent them.

The hand on her lower back made her flinch in surprise. She’d been so lost in her own world she hadn’t heard him approach. Without a word, she knew the scent, the hold was one she’d felt a million and one times.

Dallas.

She tried to be angry, to hold onto the feelings that made her flee the house in the first place. She couldn’t. At his touch, even through clothing, his warmth melted the ice in her veins that quickly formed during the last few minutes of solitude. Another tear—another swipe at it.

“Alex.”

She didn’t answer, instead she shifted her cheek to rest the opposite direction to avoid him.

“Alex, talk to me. Please.”

Suddenly his touch burned her, seared her. Jerking away from the source of pain left her standing face-to-face with him.

“You don’t love her, Dallas.” Her mouth fired off the accusation before her brain engaged. Either way, the words were spoken. His silence was deafening. The admission painful. However, she knew she’d been right, even without seeing the narrowing of his eyes or the flare of his nostrils. He’d never lied to her—ever. And she knew he couldn’t start now.

His mouth twisted, his brow knitted tighter. In the glow of the light from the shop, she saw his torment as he searched for words. He didn’t have to. Alex saw the answer in the gray eyes she knew so well. Her imaginary world had been just that—totally one-sided and in her head only. The security and love she’d felt from him over the years vanished, and the foundation of her world crumbled. The walls started to shift. Her heart was breaking, the cracks deepening at warp speed.

Her only choice—run.

Stepping away from the penetrating gray, she made a half turn, only getting an arm’s length away as he reached out to stop and spin her back. “Don’t you dare walk away from me, Alex.”

The command was crisp and the deep tone had her body reacting to his order. Frozen to her spot, she stood absolutely still. It could’ve been because of shock—it wasn’t. The pounding in her chest left her reeling. He held her tightly by her upper arms. Unable to move, she shivered in his hold.

Fire sparked again. “Don’t dare walk away? Excuse me? You have no right—”

“Stop. Now.”

Her eyes flared as she clenched her fists at her sides. “You made your choice.” She spat out as she twisted in his hold, trying to free herself.

He gave her a light shake, after a long minute she realized she was going nowhere until he decided to let her. Gritting her teeth and panting in anger, she glared at the man she’d spent a lifetime loving. It wasn’t anger she saw mirrored in his eyes.

“You’re too young.”

The lines deepened and his head tilted to the side as if he was pleading with her to understand. That wasn’t going to happen. Not now, not ever. “Bullshit! I’m twenty-three, Dallas. What’s your little friend? Twenty?”

“Stop it, Alex.”

Again, his voice stilled her, but only momentarily. “Damn it, Dallas. You stop. Look, I get it. I was stupid. I just always thought…never mind. Just let me go.”

“No.” He shook his head, frowning as pain crossed his face. “You’re just—”

“I know. You said it once. I’m not old enough. Whatever. I’m old enough to know you don’t always get what you want.”

Embarrassed, hurt and frustrated, she yanked out of his hold. Turning, she stepped away in the opposite direction, but not before she heard his last comment.

“That makes two of us.”

Stalling, her shoulders deflated. There was nothing more to say so she continued walking away. Away from her past, her present…and away from her future.

I’m so pleased to have Amy Gregory here today and she’s agreed to answer my questions. Yeah! You’re not going to want to miss her answers or the other nuggets she’s sharing. The blurb and excerpt from Mike’s Way Back. Plus, there’s a super cool giveaway.

Okay, Amy, let’s get started. Picture your favorite place in the world. Now, can you tell us a little bit about the place you’ve pictured?

A: I’ve been very fortunate to have visited a good portion of the States. However there is a beautiful private beach along the coast of Oahu that has the finest white sand, the clearest blue water and every day when we visited, it was just us, our kids and a few stray critters. It was one of the most relaxing weeks of my life and it warms my heart seeing the pictures again and again.

That sounds fabulous. I’ve never been, but it’s on my short list. Tell us about yourself: Who are you and why did you start writing?

A: I sort of fell into writing. I know that’s not the “I’ve known I was going to do this my whole life” typical answer. My first series is based on the world of professional motocross racing. Our family follows the sport and our youngest is a racer. However, my husband travels a lot and I never sleep well when he is gone. On one particularly long trip I kept having this dream that was so vivid, and each night, the story extended. After a few nights I started jotting it down with just pencil and paper. A week later I had over four hundred pages and one very bad case of writer’s cramp in my right hand! I couldn’t just bear to throw it all in a drawer so I dove in and researched what to do next and walla!

When you are not writing what are your favorite hobbies?

A: I’d be a bad writer if I didn’t first say reading! However, I shoot on a compound bow league with my husband, love to camp (in our RV so not the roughing it of our early days) and I’ve recently become the weird dog lady. We’ve always had animals in our house with the kids, but our babies are six month old little Maltese-Shih tzu puppies named Chloe & Bear. I have totally fallen in love with them.

That’s cool. I bet your arms are strong. Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

A: This list could take forever. First things first, I just needed a lot of guidance. I still rely a lot on my editor for simple grammar and punctuation help. The writing of the actual story is the easy part, the rest is actual work.

Can you tell us about a criticism you’ve received that pushed you into a better writing place?

A: I had originally submitted Carter’s Treasure in present tense, when I was told to go back and change simple structure (keep in mind, that took FOREVER!) it made the whole world of writing make sense and made it much easier.

The first book I wrote, I did it in first person. After I typed “the end” I realized I wanted it in third. Ugh, lol. Which one of your characters would you most like to meet in real life?

A: My husband would tell you I’d say Eli Hunter hands down, but I still have a soft spot for Jesse Frost. However, my all-time hero that I’d love to –not just meet but become friends with, is now Det. Michael Sterling. Oh-la-la!

What turns you on creatively?

A: I spin from one book into another, so I typically have several books brewing as I am writing one, but I would say the one thing I spend time investigating is song lyrics. I can pull an entire book from one song.

What is your greatest fear?

A: I can tell you all the normal things, heights, etc, but I guess my biggest fear is failure. I want to succeed as an author so bad it drives me to the edge some days.

What is your greatest extravagance?

A: Hmmm. I guess I’m a cowboy boot addict, as well as Starbucks lol. However, my husband has surprised me with a couple of things. I do have the exact cross that Carter gave Molly, and what is funny, I didn’t have a picture, it was just in my head. He went and found it. Then my biggest toy would have to be Alex’s Jeep. It wasn’t intentional at all, but we needed a new vehicle and it’d been my dream car since I was fourteen. I’m not quite the girly girl type, so although I wear make-up and have way too many purses, I like my vehicles to get me through our snow and ice, as well as around our farm when it’s muddy.

I think we’d get along really well. 🙂 What is your favorite music (genre/artist/album/song)?

A: Genre – easy… COUNTRY! Artist… wow… I have so many, and for different reasons. I love Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. They are crazy together and Blake and I could spar with the best of them. He’s as big of a smartass as I am. I love Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and actually, the TV show Nashville—I have every one of their songs on my iPod. They’re all amazing singers.

Country has been growing on me lately. It’s their story telling that I love. Shocker. Also, there’s a lot of talent in Country. What is the one thing you do after finishing a story?

A: I’m never done! I just flow right into the next one. I don’t want to ever be done.

Tell us a bit about the projects you are working on now?

A: Book #2 in the Finding Perfect series. You met Gabby James in Mike’s Way Back, but she has just turned into such a fire cracker. I was trying to tell my husband about my favorite scene so far and I had tears in my eyes because I was laughing so hard. He shook his head and said, ‘that’s my favorite part of your books, the sarcasm and humor’. I love writing the love and sex too, but it all comes back to me being a total smartass…I just can’t help it!

That was a log of fun. Thanks for playing along, Amy. 🙂

BLURB:

When Detective Mike Sterling left the Chicago PD and returned to his hometown of Renlend Kansas, he tried to convince himself it was so his mother could stop worrying. The truth was, even Renlend wasn’t going to vanquish the dreams that tortured him at night.

When Taryn Watts landed in Renland Kansas to de- sign a client’s new cooking school she intended to stay just long enough to do the job and then go right back to her life on the East Coast.

When Taryn and Mike found themselves sharing a booth, one thing was certain, neither one of them thought it was a good idea. Mike still wasn’t over his ex-wife’s betrayal, and when Taryn found out Mike was a cop she wanted to run all the way back to Connecticut and never look back, but she couldn’t… Sitting outside his home late at night she watches him fight against his demons. Demons she already had too much experience with firsthand.

When Mike finally admits there is no way to outrun his demons, Tayrn knows she’ll do anything, or be anything, to help Mike find his way back.

EXCERPT:

He reached for the bottle, the dark glass still cold to the touch. Tipping it back for a long swallow, the slight burn of the heavy ale helped force his past back where it belonged. “Hey, Mike?”

Noises became sharper around him as he realized it wasn’t Molly’s voice calling his name this time. Silverware sliding across a plate and ice cubes falling into a glass were a far cry from an emergency room, especially when a round of cheers rose up around him. One glance was enough to know the baseball game he had zoned out on was now tied. Blinking, he separated his hellish past from pres- ent day and turned toward the bar to answer Jeff.

His friend was holding up a fresh bottle, yet to be uncapped. Mike blinked twice, hardly letting Jeff’s chuckle register.

Mike’s jaw wasn’t the only part of him to twitch.

It had nothing to do with the second beer the bartender just set on the counter for the waitress to deliver to him. No, it was all to do with the knockout in a black pencil skirt, toned bare legs and killer heels standing at the bar—talking to Jeff.

BLURB:

Lydia’s father walked away from her when she was eight. She’s struggled to not let him affect her, but fears she wasn’t loveable enough to make him stay. Jake wants to love one woman, but after scaring the last woman he met outside of the club, he doubts he has the right. She protects her heart by sticking with her fantasies, and he lives by a set of rules that excludes women who choose a vanilla lifestyle.

The two will be kept in a conference room working together until their special project is complete. If Lydia and Jake hold tight to their bland lives, they’ll always yearn for love that is out of reach. But together they can find common ground, passion, and a reason to take chances. Once they discover the grand possibilities of the love they desire, they find themselves in the very place they tried never to be again, facing unguaranteed love.

Excerpt:

“Come on in, Lydia. I want to talk about a few things before we get started today. We need to make it quick, since we need to report to Keller at ten this morning.” When she remained in her spot he added, “Lydia, come here.”

Not wanting Gina to take anything further from her, she lifted her head and walked to Jake. She stopped at his desk, but felt instantly unworthy. Gina was more Jake’s style. She fought the need to lower her chin.

“Look at me, Lydia.”

He pushed her. “Why?” She shifted her gaze and hit him with her direct stare.

“Thank you. I needed to see your eyes.” He reached out and swiped a lock of hair from her face. He tucked the strand behind her ear, and let his finger drag down her face to her shoulder. All the while his gaze captured hers, not letting go. “How are you this morning?”

“I’m okay.”

“Okay? Hmm, maybe I should do something to improve your mood? What would you say to that?”

“Here?” she gasped and quickly turned to look out the door.

He grabbed hold of her shoulders, lifting her slightly off the floor.

“Yes, here.” He brought their bodies together, claimed her lips and swept his tongue through her mouth, awakening her sexual hunger.

She felt wanted. She felt claimed. Images from the night before swam in her mind. Silly challenges from the office mean girl were all forgotten. He set her down and nipped at her lower lip.

“We have a lot to do today. Unfortunately we cannot go any further, now.” He stepped back behind his desk as casually as if he’d just greeted the mail man.

“But you would want to?” Still looking at the papers on his desk, she didn’t think he heard her. She took a step closer. “You would repeat last night?”

Her words stopped him. His gaze searched her face. Placing his hands on the desk he leaned forward and said, “Lydia, I fully intend to further explore your body and mind. After all, there are a few places I haven’t yet completely inspected.”

Her mind ran through what he had done to her last night, and there was only one place she could think of. Warmth fluttered through her face.

“Now, that is a beautiful sight.” He returned to his papers. “I’m going to have to keep thinking of ways to shock you simply to see you blush again.” With the papers properly sorted, his attention returned to her. “Is Gina a problem?”

Gina was a lot of things, but she’d never thought of her as a problem. “I don’t think so.”

“Don’t be afraid to put her in her place. She likes that more than she lets on. She’s the type to push so she can be pushed back.”

“I hadn’t thought of her that way. Interesting.”

“Let me know if she becomes a problem.” His gaze drilled into hers, not letting her escape.

“Okay.”

“Okay?” His posture remained controlled, but the smirk couldn’t be missed.

She added her own version of the devilish grin, which ignited another blush before she even spoke. “Okay, Sir.”

“Trouble.” He stalked towards her and ruthlessly swept his hand under the hem of her skirt to press firmly along her panties. His lips pressed to her ear. “Hot and damp.”

The palm of his hand pressed on her clit, and he bent his knuckles, sending the tips of his fingers past the edge of her panties to drag along her slit.

“Be careful what you say to me, sweetheart, or you’ll shatter my control.” With one last drag of his fingers, he pulled away and walked from the room.

She turned around and watched him go. Her heart pounded. All she could do was follow him, but she couldn’t move. The exchange with Jake left her bones unsettled, and the all too familiar ache tried to set-up shop in her chest. She hadn’t expected him to crave more from her, and now she couldn’t deny he did. Was she going to deny herself the pleasure of getting to know him?
