The Forever ForestBlurb

A series of unusual, and unexplained murders in Bath, England, pushes Detective Sergeant Rebecca Leigh and Psychic Investigator, Gabriel Lewis, to work together.

They discover a link to a new Steam Punk nightclub, The Wolf’s Den, where owner Darius Wolf, when interviewed, disorientates Rebecca.  On exciting the club, Rebecca collapses, seemingly intoxicated, leaving Gabriel no choice but to take her to his home.

She has no memory of meeting Wolf, but attraction between Rebecca and Gabriel reaches boiling point as she discovers Gabriel is not as he seems. The timid psychic is a Dominant in the bedroom and turns her world upside down, as the normally strong willed Detective realizes what has been missing in her past relationships, the submission Gabriel requires from her.

Darius, now obsessed with Rebecca, gains access to her dreams when she is kidnapped by him, leaving Gabriel having to find a passage into Rebecca’s dreams and save her from The Forever Forest.

GayleGayle Cranfield was born in London and found her forever after, Mark at the age of 14.

After nearly 30 years of being together, they have two children, both at a university, and now live in Wiltshire in the South West of England somewhere between Stonehenge and Bath.

Whilst on a road trip around California in 2013, she read some disastrous books and when she returned home decided to write one of her own. Having never creatively written a word since school, she picked up her iPad and hesitantly started to write in secret thinking she’d write a short story, before she knew it she had 97000 words!

That was four books ago. She has written three erotic thrillers for Siren Publishing and this time has written her first erotic/paranormal, The Forever Forest, and has chosen Evernight to publish it for her.

“It is great to see your work come alive,” Gayle says. “Although you have various Beta readers telling you it is a great story and a real page turner until a publishing company says ‘Yes we want your work’ you only think your friends are being nice and trying not to hurt your feelings. Seeing the front cover being emailed to me for approval is always the best part and Jay Aheer has done the most amazing job, as she always does ,with all the Evernight Authors.

Excerpt – The Forever Forest

“You mentioned Jekyll and Hyde earlier, I’d that how you see me?” Gabriel asked as they sat eating their pasta.

“A bit yes. You seem so quiet normally, but this morning, when we were in your bedroom, you were a different person. More forceful.”

“I asked you this morning if that scared you and you said no, but when you walked in here today you seemed very nervous.”

“Apprehensive I think is more the terminology you should be using.”

“Why?” he asked casually.

“The word dominant conjures up many images in my head. I’ve read books, and I know what it means.”

“Is that how you see me?”

“Yes.” She gulped.

“You are a very astute woman. You’ve already worked me out from this morning?”

“Yes. I’m a Detective you know, it’s my job.” She tried to make a joke, but she knew it just sounded like panic.

“The term Dominant can mean all sorts of things in life.”

“What does it mean to you?”

“I’d like you to look at yourself,” he said, deflecting her question.

“In what way?” she asked.

“You are an extremely dominant woman in your work, and I presume you are like that because you are in a very male oriented world and have had to learn to be like that. Am I right?”

“To a certain extent, yes,” she agreed.

“But I get the feeling that is not your natural personality.” He took a long drink from his glass and refilled both glasses again.

“How so?” She nodded in thanks to the wine and picked her glass up and put it to her lips. The wine, along with the food that Gabriel had prepared, was a taste sensation. “Every now and then I see Alice falling down a rabbit hole, only fleetingly, but it’s there.”

“That’s a strange analogy, explain.” She smiled as she put her glass down and picked up her fork once more.

“I know you’re good at your job and you are obviously very thorough, but I get the feeling that this persona, this hard woman, is not the real you. You have been dragged out of your comfort zone with this career and have had to learn to adapt.”

“Keep talking.” This man was good.

“You are an extremely foreboding personality and I wouldn’t want to cross you at work, but last night and this morning I saw a different side to you, a timid side, and one I’d like to explore a little further.” She went to open her mouth, but Gabriel put his hand up to stop her saying anything. “Before you jump down my throat, hear me out please.”

“Ok.” She was beginning to take offense at his hint that she was weak.

“You do not socialize with people from work, do you?”

“No, they’re a bunch of arseholes. I like a few of them, but I still wouldn’t choose to  spend any amount of with them, Tanya is probably the only one I would see out of work.”

“So is that because you don’t want people to see the real you when you take your mask off?”

“I’m sorry?”

“When you get home, do you close the door behind you and lock the woman away and the little girl is released?”

Rebecca didn’t say anything, visions of her unicorn pajamas folded on her bed suddenly flicked through her mind.

“I take it by that silence I’m correct.”

“Go on…”

“Let’s take another avenue. Tell me about your last relationship.”

“Er, ok, I met Harry when I was working on a stalking case few years ago. He was the victim before you ask.”

“And you started a relationship with him?”

“After the case was over, yes, I did. He was a lovely man and wanted to marry me, but it wasn’t what I wanted.”

“What did you want?”

“Something else.”

“And what was that?”

Silence reigned as Rebecca couldn’t quite give him a reason why she didn’t want to marry Harry.

“Did you ever take that mask off in front of him?”

“Why do you keep going on about a mask?”

“Because I think, and please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, that you are such a force in your work and all you want to do when you get home is curl up and lock the door with a book and a glass of wine. Am I right so far?”

“Possibly.”

“Harry met you in a work environment, didn’t he?”

“Yes.”

“When he was possibly at the lowest time in his life being stalked, making him jumpy and needy.”

“True.”

“And you were the strong Detective Sergeant Rebecca Leigh, crime fighter extraordinaire.”

“Now you’re taking the piss.” She laughed. “You had me believing you then.”

“Look at the situation. Was it the tough DS Leigh he fell in love with, or the little girl lost that escapes to her fantasy world in books or TV?” Silence again. “How was your sex life?”

She blushed. “Good, I think.” She hated talking about her sex life as she’d discussed with Tanya that morning.

“Was it always you that took the lead, perhaps always instigated sex?”

She thought for a moment. “He was busy, always working long hours.”

“And you weren’t?”

“That’s not the point,” she answered abruptly.

“It totally is the point. He saw you as the dominant personality in your relationship and in all aspects of it, and I don’t think you are. Yes, you are dominant in your work life, but you want to be that woman who is taken care of, too.”

“I think I get what you mean.”

“So I want to explore that side of your quieter personality, not the tough CID Detective Sergeant.”

“How do you intend to do that?”

“There is one avenue I want to explore with you, Rebecca. It will probably make you very apprehensive.”

“What’s that? You’re killing me here, Gabriel. Get to the point will you?”

“I want you to submit to me.”

“What, in everything I do?” She panicked.

“No, just in the bedroom or wherever sex occurs. Your life is your own. I would not try and change that. I like that side. It’s feisty, but it is Rebecca I want to explore further, not Detective Sergeant Leigh.”

“I’m not into whips and chains and things.”

“Stop panicking. It’s not all about that. It’s about control. It can be, but that’s not what I want from this.”

“What do you want from it?”

“Basically, to Dominate you in our sex life.”

“I’m not sure about this, Gabriel. Is this something you’re used to?”

“It has been in the past, yes. It can make a very interesting relationship. Basically I want to pleasure you in every way possible, and I want to ensure that you have enough orgasms to make your ears bleed.”

“And what do you get out of this?” she asked curiously.

“To take care of you. Don’t worry, you will satisfy me, too, but my purpose will be your pleasure.”

“The perfect man?” She chuckled.

“You said it, not me.” His eyes looked over his wine glass, and although she couldn’t see his mouth she knew he was smirking behind the blood red liquid.

He never stopped loving her and thought he’d never see her again until a contest essay leads Sammy to Bree. When he shows up to present the winning guitar, Bree is forced to face a painful past and reveal a secret she’d buried many years ago. With hurt on both sides, unless they learn to forgive they’ll never be able to recapture the deep love they once shared.

Excerpt:
When Sammy slid into the seat, he had to contain himself. Years of searching and worrying; gut-wrenching anger and despair; living half a life without her, every day wondering why she’d disappeared. Why she’d left him. Now she was only inches away, close enough to pull her fragrance into his lungs, to breathe her. He inhaled deeply; the musky aroma was subtle, yet powerful. The same intoxicating scent he remembered from long ago. Drawing him in. Making him dizzy, crazy with want.

Enjoy this excerpt from Boy Toy:

The covers shifted again and I could feel the section near me, behind my back, lifting as he scooted closer. The warmth of his body was settled very close to and almost against mine, mirroring my shape like a puzzle piece. His voice was a low whisper in my ear, a single-syllable question. “Spoon?”

My mind went through rapid-fire calculations. Spoon? What would be the consequences of that? Should I do it? I churned through the outcomes of either saying yes or no but, after a moment, threw my pros and cons list out the window as the conclusion of, what the hell, why not? came to me. He was cute and I could use a little spooning. It wasn’t something I got to do often.

“Mm-hm.” I scooted backward into his embrace.

He slid his hand around my waist, his fingers sliding along my rib cage all the way around until he was cupping my other side. Then he nestled his face in my hair and inhaled my scent. “You smell nice,” he whispered.

“Thanks,” I murmured back. For some reason I kept my voice low as if talking too loud would break the spell. It felt so good to have all six feet of his firm body stretched along mine. Even pressed against my back I could sense the various muscles making contact with me. The slow rhythm of his breath just skimming my ear was nice. I let go of all the typical female questions that rose up in my mind at the scenario and enjoyed the moment.

There had been so many times in my life I had imagined waking up in bed with my husband just like this, feeling a new day awakening with me safe and cozy in my true love’s arms. It was one of those dreams that, now, was becoming painful to replay as my singleness continued to stretch out year after year. In a moment like this it was easy to take it out of the closet, dust it off, and use it as a sort of atmosphere to what was actually going on. When things like this happened it reinforced the fact that I really did want to get married. It was just a matter of Mr. Right showing up. No matter how my logical mind kept trying to force Grant into the shape of that hole, my true self stood back shaking its head and saying, “It’s not going to work. There’s too big of an issue there.”

After a few minutes of laying in silence together with the rise and fall of our chests matching, I could feel myself starting to slip away again into dreamland. But then Harrison shifted his hips, scooting closer to my backside. My eyes shot open as it registered exactly what was pressing against my ass and lower back.

Morning wood!

SJ’s Thoughts

I adore how Cara Bristol tells a story and this book is simply perfection. It’s also quite possibly my new favorite. I love stories that pull you in and don’t let go. Irresistible Attractions does just that. The characters are full of life, irresistible charm, and hot sexiness. Yum!

I’ll be reading this one again and again. This is a Rod and Cane Romance but it is very much a stand alone. Regardless if you’ve read the other books, which I totally recommend you do since they are all fabulous, you’ll love the other characters here.

Jordan and Hannah have hot hot hot chemistry. Swoon. Irresistible Attractions is a 5 start must read.

IRRESISTIBLE ATTRACTIONS Excerpt

Vacuuming finished, she wound the cord around the cleats and pushed the machine into the hall, remembering how she’d gotten flustered and left it on the elevator. Jordan Bevy must have thought she was a ditz. Naturally she would make an ass of herself in front of the sexiest man she’d ever encountered. He made the guys at her college look like little kids.

Hannah halted in the doorway giving the room a final perusal. Spic and spank. Dust free. Paddles aligned in neat rows. Benches polished.

She eyed her favorite. Gorgeous cherry grain. Slick, smooth leather, the kind resistant to sweat stains, she suspected. In her fantasies, she knelt on that bench. Dare she try it out for real? Doing so violated the rules, but it wouldn’t disturb anything, and tonight might be her sole chance. Amberlyn would come back—or Tidy Titans would replace her. Either way, she’d never be alone in the mansion again.

Before she lost her nerve, she strode to the apparatus. Spastic butterflies beat frantic wings in her stomach as she knelt on the lower padded seat and relaxed her torso atop the upper one. She wiggled her wrists into the leather loops attached to the front legs. She peeked over her shoulder at her reflection and winced at her big booty, covered in unattractive gray wash-and-wear cotton poly. Not her best feature. Why couldn’t she have had a cute little butt to go along with her short stature?

Hannah freed her hands from the restraints and tugged up the skirt. Her lace thong left her backside near naked. Twisting her arm, she swatted one pasty cheek. Smack! Smack! Buns of steel? More like jiggles of Jell-O. She slapped herself several more times. It was hard to get a good swing. If only she had longer arms…

Or an implement.

Hannah scurried to the wall and snatched a short, slender cane then hopped back on the bench and hiked her dress over her waist again.

She tapped herself with the rod. More kiss than slap, it imparted only a slight sting. Tightening her grip, she swung a little harder. Ow! She wiggled her bottom. Nice tingle, but it disappeared too fast.

She was so bad. This was breaking every rule and some that hadn’t been written yet. Tidy Titans’ Rule No. 35: Do not try out clients’ spanking equipment.

Hannah giggled and landed another strike on her bottom. “You’re a naughty girl,” she chided aloud, imagining her fantasy man saying it. But, this time, he had Jordan Bevy’s face.

“Yes, you are a naughty girl,” boomed Jordan’s very real voice.

New Release! The Contract by Raven McAllan

Happy Memorial Day, everyone. My thoughts are with my FIL, today. He was a very proud Navy man.

I’m super stoked to have Raven McAllan here today with her brand new release. Wahoo! Take it away, Raven. 😀

Living in Scotland where summer can be one day in May, and the midges rule from June to September, give me somewhere warm any day. After all mozzies respond to repellent, I swear midges thumb their noses up at it.

I love to travel, and I like setting my books in places I know, so I guess it was inevitable that as I sat by a pool in Barbados I got the idea for this book. (Lot’s of ‘I’s’ in there, ooops, sorry.)

Hubby got used to me saying, stop the car while I take a photo, as we drove around, and then scribbling in a notebook, things I didn’t want to forget.

The upshot, is The Contract, now released by Evernight Publishing.

TheContract-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-ver2-3DrenderBlurb…

Walking out of her job was the best thing Nikki Plummer ever did. What she didn’t expect however, was to be tracked down by some hot bod, claiming she owed him.

Ruari Cameron has come to collect what he has paid for, but one look at Nikki, and there’s only one thing he wants. Her in every facet of his life.

Of course convincing Nikki of this might take some doing…but he’s more than ready to rise to the occasion.

Will they find their happy ever after under the Barbados sun?

This is how she got there…

(a wee tease)

“Plum.”

“Go away, I’m not listening.” Nikki Plummer, often called Plum and she hated it, finished emptying her head-high cupboard and slammed the door—hard. Her boss moved back in a hurry to avoid her toes, knees, designer shoes, and anything else in the vicinity being pinched between the door and the jamb. Her numerous bracelets jangled as she did so, and seemed to add their displeasure to the wearer’s.

“Plum, don’t be silly, it was a mistake.”

There it was again. Did the stupid woman have no sense whatsoever? Plum was for signing her work, nothing else. Sheesh, she’d told everyone often enough, and most people accepted it.

Not this one.

The noise of a stiletto tapping impatiently on the parquet flooring only firmed Nikki’s mind up. Her boss could go to hell. The hard way. On her Manolos.

“No.” No to whatever you want. It’s over.

“You’re overreacting, like I said it’s all a silly mistake.” There was a definite note of panic in the voice now. “Plum, stop it and listen to me.”

Yeah, yours you bitch.

“No one called Plum around here.” Nikki checked her desk drawer. She removed three pens, a diary, and her hot as Hades red lipstick and threw them in her kitchen sink-sized bag. Satisfied there was nothing more lurking in a corner, she grabbed her sprint from the underground—fondly known as The Clockwork Orange—ballet flats and stood up. Anything else? Not that she wanted or needed anyway. The rest of the stuff came with the job and could stay with it.

The feeling, the glorious feeling of liberation kicked in. Nikki zipped her bag and put on her jacket.

“Nikki, for god’s sake stop this nonsense.” The voice rose to a screech just one notch short of shattering glass. The panic in it was evident. “Stop being a drama queen and vying for notice.” The other five or six people in the office gave up their pretense of not earwigging and listened openly.

Nikki winced at the shrill tone. “No one could ever even think of vying for attention, Geraldine, in here,” she said calmly, knowing her even note and lack of concern would infuriate the other woman. “Yours or anyone else’s. You command the field in that respect, even down to your own attention, weird though it sounds. Luckily I neither want nor need it. Not now. You fired me, I’m out of here.”

Geraldine Butters stared at her. “I was joking.”

At the back of the room someone coughed, ‘bullshit’.

“You should know I didn’t mean what I said. It was said in jest.” Now the voice was full of panic. “Take off your jacket, put down your bag and get on with that project. I need it by the end of the month. Only you can do it.”

Now we’re getting to the crux of the matter. The project, whatever it is and your lack of ability. Well tough. Too bad, that’s one joke that misfired on you then.

“Don’t care, too late, goodbye.”

“You little bitch, you’ll pay for this. I gave you a job, I sorted your mess…”

That was the last straw. Nikki picked up the waste paper basket, full of sweet wrappers, old take away coffee cups as well as torn bits of paper, old train tickets, and all the detritus of a busy office and upended it over Geraldine’s head.

Excerpt:

Captain Hugh Wilkes drummed enthusiastically on the steering wheel of his car as he drove it up the M3 towards London. He sung loudly and tunelessly along to the song on the radio, too, but it didn’t matter. No one could hear him.

He’d surprised himself by being so chilled out about the volume of Friday evening traffic. He wasn’t the most patient of people, so the slow progress should probably have been increasing his blood pressure, if not leading to full on road rage. But, although he’d have loved to be actually achieving the speed limit, not bumbling along at a mere fifty miles per hour, Wilkes was just glad the traffic was moving at all. Britain’s roads, the motorways in particular, soon came to a standstill if there was so much as a tiny bump between two vehicles. So any progress was better than none.

Besides, what could he do about it? His only other options to get to London from his base in Wiltshire were a train, or stealing a plane, helicopter or tank. The latter might just cause a little bit of bother, and mean the end of his army career, not to mention criminal charges. The former meant cramming in amongst sweaty, disgruntled commuters. If that wasn’t bad enough, he’d be charged an extortionate amount to do so, probably wouldn’t even get a seat, and would likely be subjected to delays.

At least driving took him from door to door, with plenty of personal space. And if there were delays, well, he could sit them out from the comfort of his own vehicle, with the climate control set to the perfect temperature, and the radio blasting some of his favourite tunes.

The next song was even better, and Wilkes’ tuneless wailing became more enthusiastic, as did the drumming on the steering wheel. He was in one hell of a good mood, and if he was truthful with himself, he knew it wasn’t just the fact the M3 was moving at a nice pace. It wasn’t the Friday feeling, either. Sure, both of those things were contributing to his happiness, but the main reason he was grinning like a buffoon was the thought of what awaited him in the capital. Or rather, who.

Rustam Balkhi. His gorgeous Afghan boyfriend, whom he’d met out in Afghanistan while they were working together for the British Army. Now, with their tour of duty over and the forces’ presence pulled out of the country, the two men had returned to England. Wilkes had gone back to his regular army life in Bulford Camp, near Salisbury. Balkhi was in London, where he’d recommenced the medical training he’d postponed to become an interpreter for the Brits.

The past few weeks had been somewhat of a whirlwind. Wilkes’ return to the UK had been straightforward, but Balkhi had had to jump through some hoops in order to get back onto his medical course. He’d been willing to start from scratch, but it’d seemed like an awful waste of time, so Wilkes had spoken to his superiors, who’d explained to the university what important work Balkhi had been doing. Fortunately, they’d been persuaded of Balkhi’s commitment and character, and allowed him to pick up where he’d left off. That settled, Balkhi had to pack up, travel back to the UK, find somewhere to live, move in… and all before the start of the next academic term.

Wilkes had felt terrible. His return had taken place a few weeks before Balkhi’s, so although he’d been granted some leave for R&R, he hadn’t been able to either spend it with Balkhi, or to use it help him with his relocation. By the time Balkhi had set foot on British soil, Wilkes was back to work. And, given nobody knew about the two of them, or even that Wilkes was gay, he couldn’t exactly ask for more leave in order to help his boyfriend move into his new flat.

Life had conspired against them ever since, so this was the first opportunity they’d had to see each other since saying goodbye in Afghanistan all those weeks ago. They’d communicated via email, text message and phone calls, but it just wasn’t the same. Especially since they’d gone from seeing each other every single day for the best part of six months to not setting eyes on each other for weeks on end.

Wilkes had struggled terribly in the interim. Life had been tough enough while they were still out in the desert. After weeks and weeks of trying desperately to ignore their growing attraction, they’d finally given in to it. It had been stupid and risky, but, having quickly realised there was more to their attraction than the physical, they’d decided to carry on their relationship in secret while they were in Afghanistan, see how it went, and figure things out once Wilkes’ tour of duty was over. Balkhi had always intended to return to the UK for his studies, so they would, at least, be living in the same country.

I rounded the couch, but halted as a body came into view.

Cole lounged against the far side, one hand behind his head, half-empty beer bottle in the other. “Hey.”

Our gazes collided, sending a shock wave of energy through my blood. My heel itched to spin, but his focus wandered down my body and back up again, lingering on my bare thighs.
Oh, the temptation to taste him one more time. Three years of simmering desire had my kettle ready to scream hallelujah. “Hey,” I whispered back. “I thought you’d left.”

His smile melted my bones. “Decided to stay a while and reminisce.”

My lips tugged up. “I was eyeing the back of the couch while stealing some whiskey and doing the same thing.” Kind of.

“Care to join me?”

I considered the cushion closest to me and bit on the inside of my lip as temptation and love for the sexy man a few paces away warred in my brain. Knowing I owed Cole an apology, I decided to sit, curling my legs under me. “Sorry for being so harsh earlier. I…I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

Cole twisted sideways to place the bottle on the coffee table. “I shouldn’t have cornered you like that.” He started to sit up, but hesitated, a question in his eyes.

“It’s all right. I won’t run.”

The leather squeaked as he swung his feet to the floor and leaned back, hands on his thighs. His blue tie hung loose, the top two buttons of his dress shirt unbuttoned. A hint of dark hair called out to my fingers. Averting my eyes, I focused on the tumbler clasped in both my hands.

“I know I’ve said it hundreds of times, Gwen, but I’m sorry. Please say you forgive me.”
Another gulp of whiskey gave me courage to speak. “Forgiving in my mind means making things right—getting back to normal and moving on.” I lifted my head enough to focus on the knot of his tie. “I can’t do that with you, Cole.”

“Why not?”

“Because even though it’s expected you’ll marry an uptight, snobbish princess,” I sucked in air and allowed the words to spew, “I want you every second of the day.”

His chest stopped its rise and fall, and I glanced up at his face.

Mistake.

Longing like I’d never known reached out from his eyes and froze me in place. My breath caught. Nipples pebbled beneath my thin shirt.

Every muscle in my body quivered as he stood and walked toward me, unwavering gaze on my face.

“What—” I licked my lips, hating how my voice wavered. “What are you doing?”

“Give me the whiskey.”

My pulse thrummed with life, and I put the glass in his outstretched hand.

He set it on the coffee table without breaking eye contact and leaned down, placing his hands against the back of the couch on either side of me, making an effective cage. His face hovered mere inches from mine.

I breathed in as he exhaled, the subtle scent of peppermint flooding my mouth with saliva. His lower lip called out to my teeth; the shadow lining his jaw begged for my tongue.

“Did you mean what you said about once being enough, Gwen? Because it’s not for me. I want to taste every inch of your skin. Bury myself inside you.”

My breath caught, and moisture flooded my panties making me squirm on the cushion.
I opened my mouth, having no idea what words would tumble out, but he swooped down, capturing my parted lips before I could speak.

Blessed Mary, mother of God.

I swallow anxiously, my heart racing at lightning speed in my chest. “I never do as I’m told. You should know that.” We’ve had our own share of disagreements and butting heads in the past. This feels different, hotter, sexier. I feel my insides ache for release. Will he give it to me or tease me into submission?

“Bad girls get spanked,” Joel whispers into my ear and flips me onto my stomach. Before I have time to respond or fight back, I feel his hands at my sides pulling down my pants and underwear, just enough to expose my bare flesh.
