Welcome friends old and new. I’m glad you came. Today, I’m sharing from my just released debut, TAKING CHANCES. It’s available now!
Taking Chances is the first in a series of books I’m calling The Love Projects. Taking Chances is the story of Lydia and Jake. The blurb and cover are below. LAST WEEK: While Lydia waits to find out who Jake will select for his project, she gets lost in one of her fantasies starring the man himself. In last Wednesday’s Mid Week Tease, I shared a bit more. Jake picked Lydia for the project! Click over to the tease to find out what happened and the cause behind her jitters. THIS WEEK: Lydia’s getting ready to spend the day alone with Jake.
If the nonsensical feelings were left to fester she’d tumble into a panic attack.
They had a big task in front of them. Loads of work would fill the day, and there was no need to get emotional. Her brain heard all the reasonable thoughts, but her body continued to brace against panic. She closed her eyes and concentrated on the pace of her breathing. She needed a distraction. She opened her eyes and found it in the mess on her desk. Her hands shifted pages, such a normal thing for her to do, except she wasn’t reading a thing.
Oh boy, Lydia’s successfully worked her nerves into a dancing fit. <~ You can <tweet that> if you want. I wonder how Jake’s doing. Come back and find out.

BLURB:
Lydia’s father walked away from her when she was eight. She’s struggled to not let him affect her, but fears she wasn’t loveable enough to make him stay. Jake wants to
love one woman, but after scaring the last woman he met outside of the club, he doubts he has the right. She protects her heart by sticking with her fantasies, and he lives by a set of rules that excludes women who choose a vanilla lifestyle.
The two will be kept in a conference room working together until their special project is complete. If Lydia and Jake hold tight to their bland lives, they’ll always yearn for love that is out of reach. But together they can find common ground, passion, and a reason to take chances. Once they discover the grand possibilities of the love they desire, they find themselves in the very place they tried never to be again, facing unguaranteed love.
I’m holding a GIVEAWAY through the end of September to celebrate my debut.

Engrossing little snippet, which is impressive considering how small the 8Sundays have to be. Nice one 🙂
Thanks, Robbie. 🙂
I just love how you show her distraction. Beautifully done! And CONGRATULATIONS on your debut release! I’m so excited for you! I’ve added it to my GR. 🙂
Sarah! Hi and thank you. 😀
I’ve lived that scene. Well done. 🙂 Congrats on your debut!
Yeap, me too. Thanks, Gem. 🙂
Yeah, I’ve lived that as well and the description of it is dead on. Very well done. Congrats on your release!
Thank you, Joanne! 😀
Love the last line. I wonder what those pages are that she’s flipping through?
Thanks, Frank. Whatever the pages are, I hope they can wait until her head is clear. Whenever that is. 😉
Great descriptions- drew me in and kept me there.
~Decadent Kane
Thank you! 🙂
She’s definitely tense! I can so relate, very well described, excellent excerpt. I can’t wait for more!
Lol, Veronica. I can relate too. 🙂
I can totally see her flustered actions in my head. Hope the boss doesn’t see it though : )
Sweet. He might not be the only one flustered actually. Thanks, Millie. 🙂
Love the imagery here. “Her hand shifted pages” is a great description and definitely shows that she’s just going through the motions and not actually turning the pages as in reading. Loved it.
Yes, she’s certainly in trouble. It’s fun to see how these two affect each other. Thanks, Gemma. 🙂
What a great scene! And congratulations again on your new release!
Thank you, Lisa!! It’s definitely an exciting time. 🙂
“Her hands shifted pages, such a normal thing for her to do, except she wasn’t reading a thing.” Oh, man, how many times have I done this when I’m upset, worried, or flustered! Gr8t and congratulations on your new release!
Thanks, Sharon. I’ve certainly been there too. Write what you know, lol. 🙂
Great descriptions. I love how you showed her distraction.
Thank you, Karen. 🙂
Congratulations on the release, S.J.! Yay! Best wishes for great success! Excellent snippet. I love how you showed her state of mind!
If you tweet me @teresa_cypher about the release, I’ll be glad to retweet it. 🙂
Aw! Thanks, Teresa. I’ll do that. 🙂
It would take more than paperwork for me, too! I’m loving Lydia’s realistic reactions—I can’t wait to see what Jake thinks of her.
Yeah! Thank you, Sarah. I can’t wait to share Jake with all of you. 🙂
Beautiful cover and great snippet. I can feel her trepidation.
Thank you, AS! 🙂 I’m pretty fond of the cover too.
This brings back memories of a time when panic attacks were a daily thing. She’s keeping her hands and eyes busy not to go into a complete tailspin. Very realistic. Good snippet.
I’m glad it’s just a memory now, Rayne. Thank you. 🙂
Distracted much? Love it. I can feel her anxiety. God, I’ve done this myself! 🙂
History Sleuth’s Milk Carton Murders
I know, right, lol. Thanks! 🙂
Good distraction at the end, SJ. Good snippet. 🙂
Thank you, Siobhan. 🙂
You did a super job showing her tension. Nice snippet.
Wow, thanks, Elaine. 🙂
I don’t think she will escape that panic attack. It’s a really hard thing to do. Read girl, read!! It’s your only chance.
I know that shaky feeling! Sounds like she needs something better to focus on… and soon.
Focusing on mundane things — or at least going through the motion of them — is a great way to settle yourself. Hopefully the rest of her will focus on what her hands are doing. Great snippet!
Nice snippet…can you say hot and bothered? LOL! Thanks for sharing!
