Last week I shared a bit of their sweet conversation from one of their lunches together.

This Week Ethan’s life was bound to interrupt their budding relationship. Now, he’s come to her place to say goodbye. He’s just given her a gift, something she’s longed for from the Art Institute gift shop where their time together began. Enjoy!

“You’re welcome. I’ve enjoyed our time together.” He brushed away the tear that had rolled down her cheek and cupped her chin.

“Don’t say that like it’s over.” She took a hold of his wrist and pulled it into her lap. “It’s not, right?” Panic raced over her. If he wanted to leave, she wouldn’t stop him, but her whole body hurt with wanting him to stay.

“I’m no good for you, Nadia.” He took hold of her hands. “You deserve a nice man with an uncomplicated life. I can’t give you what you need.”

“That’s not true.” She put her fingers to his lips. “Don’t.”

He took a hold of her shirt, not pulling her closer, just squeezing the fabric in his fist.

“I don’t know what’s going on with you.” She brought her touch back to his hands, trying to ease the pressure. “I just know the only time I feel alive is when I’m with you. You’re on my mind constantly.” She lowered her gaze, losing her courage by the second. “There’s something between us and I want to explore it. I want to know what drives you insane with need. Don’t you want me too?”

“Shit, Nadia, I haven’t stopped thinking about you since the first day at the windows.” He let her go and pulled out of her reach to slip around to the other side of the couch with his back to her. “I want things from you that I’m certain would frighten you.”

“I doubt that.” Knowing she had to make her move now or risk losing him forever, she pulled her shirt over her head and tugged off her sweatpants, tossing them both on the chair. “Do you remember the questions I asked about you before we met?”

“You’re playing with fire.”

“No, I’m not into fire play, but I have a feeling you know what I need.”

“What …” He turned, his gaze swept over her body and he brushed his hand over his mouth. “You take my breath away.” He stepped toward her, adjusting the bulge in his pants. “You think you want to play?”

“I do.” She sucked on her lip, wishing she’d worn her one set of matching bra and panties.

“Fuck, I want this”

I’ve turned in my final set of edits and I’m happy to share Desire Unexpected, Assassins and Sweethearts book 1 is releasing April 9th! 😀

Last week I shared a bit of conversation with the four assassins. This Week I skipped to a new scene. Ethan and Nadia are together again and this time they are visiting one of his favorite food trucks. 🙂 Enjoy!

“I got a couple chicken and a couple pork tamales.” He set down the tray and she busied herself with setting out the plates of food, napkins, and plastic forks. He pulled bottles of water from his pockets.

“It smells delicious.” She pointed to a cup and a wrapped item still on the tray. “Is that milk?”

“It is and the other item is for later.” He set the tray aside.

After unwrapping a tamale, she picked up her fork. The thin layer of masa was soft and the inside was packed with meat and sauce. First, she tasted the creamiest corn and then an explosion hit her full on. She coughed twice and he handed her the milk.

“Are you trying to kill me?”

He didn’t answer and simply laughed.

She slapped his hand and took another sip of milk. “That wasn’t funny.”

“No, but I had no idea you were such a wimp.”

“Then why did you order the milk?”

“Dessert, the other thing your truck didn’t have.” His eyebrow raised and her thoughts went right into the gutter. “What was that thought?”

“Oh, there’s no way I’m telling you. Not after you burned me with your tamale.”

He spit out his food and she burst into a fit of giggles. Once they calmed down and she uncapped the tiny tub of sour cream he’d fetched for her, she took another bite.

“These really are delicious. I’ve never seen the masa so thin and so much filling.”

“The truck owner told me, it’s his grandma’s recipe.”

“Grandmothers are the best cooks.” She scooped another bite and admired it first. “I’ve learned a few tips from mine, but they’re mostly cookie recipes.”

“She sounds like a sweet lady.”

“The sweetest. Tell me something about your family.” When he remained quiet, she changed her question. “Or you could share where you got your love for the arts.”

“My father was the curator at the Art Institute. I’ve been walking the halls there all my life.”

“That’s amazing. What a way to grow up. You never considered a career in the arts?” She took another bite of her tasty sour cream covered tamale.

“There were times I considered following in my father’s career path, but things changed for me a few times and I developed skills in other areas.”

“I’m glad you brought it up because I have no idea what we do at work.”

“And you think I know?”

“Smart ass.” She tapped on his foot.

“Okay. I’ll tell you one thing that no one knows.”

“I’m listening.” She leaned forward.

I’ve turned in my first set of edits. 😀 We are getting real close now to having a release date! Desire Unexpected, Assassins and Sweethearts book 1 is almost here. Last week I shared a bit more from Nadia and Ethan’s first conversation. This Week I skipped to a new scene. Ethan is meeting with three acquaintances. Ethan is trying to concentrate on the business at hand and not Nadia. 🙂 Enjoy!

Aidan, quiet as ever, slid into the last open chair at the table.

If Nadia thought he was like a ghost, he wondered what she’d think of Aidan. He gripped his thigh and hoped the waiter would hurry it up with their drink order.

“Perfect timing, it seems to be another gang up on Max meeting. Change the subject please.”

The waiter sat down a round of drinks. Two fingers of whisky for Gavin and pints for Aidan and Max. He’d always favored gin and tonic. He knew what he liked and had stuck with it.

“Didn’t that happen the last time you asked Ethan about his dating life?”

“It did.” Max turned to him. “What’s up with that? Are you taking the Windthrop job?”

“You’re sleeping with Janet Windthrop?”

“I am not.” Ethan pushed up his sleeves. “You three are worse than a bunch of teenage girls.”

“So, you’re not sleeping with her or you’re not taking the job?”

“I’m taking the job only. Janet’s been through enough. The job is about liberating her from impending death, not taking advantage, besides she’s not my type.” Nadia’s deep blue eyes flashed through his thoughts. She was his type. Shit. He needed to fire her. He also needed to change the subject before anyone got suspicious. “Gavin, are you ready for your job next week?”

“We do have a lot to discuss tonight. So, I’ll let the abrupt change of subject slide.”

Ethan slammed the rest of his drink and forced his expression straight while Gavin watched him, the burn of the gin giving him enough of a distraction.

I got my cover. It’s so pretty! Jay Aheer did an amazing job. Desire Unexpected, Assassins and Sweethearts book 1 is almost here! I’m working my way through edits and hope to turn them in soon. 😀 Last week I shared the first snippet. Nadia got a bit nervous when her boss sat beside her at the Art Institute. This Week I may have skipped the rest of their first conversation, but it doesn’t take Ethan long to find her again. Enjoy!

On her way to the exit, the empty corridor revealed two sets of footsteps. Her imagination took off with the idea Ethan was once again following her. Pathetic. She’d never get that lucky twice in one day.

Her heart picked up its pace anyway with the assistance of her usual three cups of morning coffee. She resisted the urge to turn around, ignored the urge to visit the museum shop, and instead walked out of the Art Institute.

After gulping several large breaths of brisk Chicago air, she made her way to her favorite food truck. The best grilled cheese sandwich in the city was calling her name and not the man she couldn’t help but hope was following her.

When she stepped into line, a tick of disappointment weighed on her spirits when she turned and didn’t find him behind her.

“What’s good here?”

She turned back to find Ethan standing next to her, intently checking out the menu. “Gah!” She stumbled back a step. “You’ve got to stop doing that.”

“Doing what?”

“You’re like a ghost.” She shook her head. “I think you’re gone and then you pop up.”

“I simply slipped into your blind spot which I must say was easy to do.” He turned to face her. His gaze fixed on hers. “You should be more aware of your surroundings. You also need to walk a lot faster if you want to lose me which I should have suggested. It looks like rain.”

“I didn’t know you were following me.” She lost herself in his hazel eyes. As the light changed around them, it highlighted several different flecks of color, each were similar, but different. She wouldn’t mind staring into them all day long. “Why are you following me?” A drop of rain hit her cheek.

“When one of my employees asks a couple of questions about me, I blow it off as curiosity.” He took a step closer. “When those questions get increasingly more personal, I tend to take an interest, Nadia.”

“You know who I am?” Her pulse fluttered. Oh God, he knows what I asked.

He brushed away the droplet of rain with his thumb.

Warmth flushed along her body, leaving a tingle in her toes.

“You work for me. Of course I know who you are.” He gestured her to move forward in the line. “Why are you so interested in my personal life?”

“I like to know who I’m working for.” She looked to the ground as she stepped forward in line.

“Do you think I should take the same interest in your personal life?”

“I guess I deserved that.” She took a tighter grip on her purse. “I’m sorry for invading your privacy. I’ll stop with the questions.”

“I wouldn’t want you to give up so easily.”
