Revenant Investigations, book three

by Libby Bishop

Book Description:

Kate Briar is enjoying her vacation when her boss calls her to the office about a job. As head researcher for Revenant Investigations—a paranormal investigation team—she’s unsure why he sounds so wary about her taking the case. After all, there’s very few people in Noble, Maine she’d refuse to work with. She’s even more uncertain about his hesitation when he announces that the case is one she’s dreamed of since she was a teenager. That is, until he tells her who she’ll be working with.

Murphy O’Keefe is a well-known legend hunter. He chases the legends of the dead for profit. Kate used to be good friends with him, and they were growing much closer before he betrayed her. She was helping him with a case when she woke up one morning to find all of her research and all of the artifacts she’d found gone—she hasn’t seen him since.

To keep things civil, she offers him a truce, not wanting to spoil the importance of the new case. But she doesn’t realize the turmoil of anger and attraction that truce will ignite. Nor that her fate is directly in the hands of the man that broke her heart.

Excerpt:

Sitting at his desk, Folger leaned his forearms against it and folded his hands together. “I’ll start by telling you the investigation is at the Norling Lighthouse.”

Excitement sparked within her at the name, and she couldn’t help but smile wide. “Folger! I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to investigate Norling since I was a teenager.”

Folger chuckled. “I know, which is why you’d be the perfect person for the job.”

“Exactly what does the client want?” The lighthouse was known to be haunted by three different ghosts, but it was rumored to be connected to the pirates who came through Noble during the summer months.

“The interest is in the ghost who walks the lighthouse, but the other ghosts should be noted as well. The most important thing for him, our client, is to find the lighthouse keeper’s journal, because he believes it’s somehow connected the pirate legend.”

The joy that was coursing through her drained away, and dread took its place. She understood now why both he and Arabella had kept the client’s name from her—it wasn’t a Noble resident. Their client was a legend-hunter: a person who hunted myths of the dead for profit.

“Kate, look at me.”

She met Folger’s gaze, which was filled with understanding.

“It’s Murphy O’Keefe.”

Her throat went dry and refused to work. Murphy was the one person on the face of the planet she never wanted to see again. Their last encounter was so engrained into memory, all she had to do was think about it and she was right back there in the moment, feeling the anger at his betrayal all over again.

“He has presented enough facts to the town council they’ve agreed to allow him to dig deeper into the lighthouse keeper, who, as you know, is the one haunting the lighthouse itself.” Folger leaned back in his chair. “They had a stipulation—Revenant Investigations is to send someone with him to document the investigation and help him search. They asked specifically for you since you know the history of the lighthouse and the pirates better than all of Noble, save Doyle,” he was the head of the Historical Society, “—but if you don’t want to do this, I’ll understand.”

Kate took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. She swallowed hard, the motion near painful. “Does he,” she cleared her throat, “have to be at the lighthouse? Can I investigate by myself or with another team member?”

Folger shook his head. “No. He has to be there—it was his stipulation. However, if you feel it necessary to bring in another member of the team, that’s what will be done.”

Kate crossed her legs, wondering what to do. This case was a dream case for her. She practically begged the Historical Society every year to let her go in for even just one night. But to deal with Murphy? She’d trusted him as a friend and teammate before she started with Revenant and he’d betrayed her. Gutted her, to be more exact. But still, the Norling Lighthouse…

What if she never got another chance to investigate?

“He can’t run with the goods, so to speak? He has an ironclad agreement with the council?”

Folger handed her a piece of paper. “I have the entire document on file, but that’s really all you need to see.”

She began to read it, very carefully.

“In summary, it states that Murphy cannot use any of the findings for profit. That includes documents, journals, jewelry, or any other historical artifact relating to the pirates of Emerald Bay and those who dwelled in the lighthouse, or once dwelled where the lighthouse and the keeper’s house now stand.”

That’s exactly what the paper she was holding stated. She’d read it four more times before handing it back to Folger. “No profit.”

“Not a penny. All he’ll receive is credit for helping find anything we don’t already know for a fact. He can’t even sell the story, Kate—Noble will control how everything will be announced and released.”

So Murphy would only get credit… Kate took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “I’ll do it, Folger. I’ll take the case.”

New Release! Deep Dream by Elodie Parkes

Thank you for inviting me to your blog today to celebrate my new release with Hot Ink Press, erotic paranormal romance, ‘Deep Dream.’

This story concept was originally formed for a proposed series. Now it has been completed revised, lengthened, and re-edited for Hot Ink Press.

Essentially a vampire erotic romance, it also has threads of magic, and taking place in New Orleans, it’s set in a music club/rock club, the mysterious StarZ.

Ethan Ross, the vampire hero, has been in New Orleans since his girlfriend and sire, dumped him in 1922. He’s used to the weird undercurrents of the city and now works in StarZ that caters to the supernatural folks. His band, Deep Dream, play there. He’s tasked with taking care of the ‘ordinary humans’ that arrive in the club and he does this happily …

With a broken heart to heal Ethan swore off love long ago … that is until starry eyed Anna Prideaux wanders into his life.
Then sparks start to fly

She watched him disappear into the gloom. Anna stood and scooped her phone from the counter. She glanced around to check who might be watching her. When it looked like no one was, she quickly followed Marcus. She quickened her pace as she lost sight of him in the swirling mist at the back of the club’s main room. Marcus disappeared.

When she reached where she’d last seen him a shiver spiked up her back. The mist was freezing cold, the air thick with potent. Anna turned away as a weird fear gripped her. She practically ran back to the bar, weaving through the groups of patrons, and muttering, “Sorry,” as she knocked into one, splashed the drink from the glass of another, until she stood in front of Ethan.

His gaze mesmerized her. She wasn’t even sure she actually heard his voice, but somehow he soothed her.

“Anna, it’s time you went home now. You want to go home. You have work to do transcribing the interview with the band. Everything’s fine.”

She smiled at him. “I’m off now. Thank you for answering my questions. Thank Marcus for me. He left.” She gestured toward where she’d run from. A flutter of fear rose in her stomach and then Ethan was leaning forward, his blue eyes capturing her so that she dreamily froze to soak up his low voiced words.

“Goodnight, Anna.”

She left the club happily, a faraway feeling carrying her along …

New Release! Dark Beast by Alexa Sinclaire

Dark Beast
by: Alexa Sinclaire
Publisher: Evernight Publishing
Release Date: February 9th, 2015
Genre & Length: M/F Erotic Romance Novella

Blurb
Scarred and bitter, all former soldier Kieran Thomson wants is a wife, a beautiful bride he can control and manipulate. And use for really hot sex. He isn’t supposed to fall for her. He isn’t supposed to actually care about her. He just wants to lock her up in a gilded cage and use her for his own pleasure. But when she finds a way past his barriers with her sensual touch, Kieran realizes he must either set her free or let her into his heart.

Despite being ignored and shunned by her family, Josephine Richmond is willing to protect them at any cost. Even if it means marrying a man she’s only just met. They say he’s a beast, scarred inside and out. She knows she should be afraid, she knows she should hate him for trapping her, but she can’t. Unable to resist her attraction to her husband, Josephine’s determined to make the marriage work.  Especially when she has her own secret scars that only Kieran seems able to heal.

Excerpt
Looking down at the petrified Josephine, Kieran rationally understood why she was nervous, but he didn’t care. Not one tiny bit.
The woman was an adult, after all. She wasn’t being forced—maybe ‘manipulated’ was the word—into the marriage. To hold back the feeling of pity creeping into his conscience, he remembered the look on her face when she saw his scars at their one meeting before the wedding. The repulsed reaction was just like all those women before her who trembled at his disfiguration, and reminded him that like those vapid bimbos, she was as superficial as them.
It was the main reason he felt little guilt in picking her purely based on looks. She’d been stunning as a sixteen-year-old girl and now six years later, she’d grown into her body and was absolutely beautiful. Her figure was something out of a 1950s pinup: smooth curves and dips, filling out in all the right places. Unbelievably fuckable.
Her skin was porcelain smooth with a few freckles across the bridge of her nose that looked a bit out a place on her alabaster skin yet gave her something unique. But it was her mouth that really killed him: luscious and pink, with a distinct curve along the upper lip that he wanted to lick. They looked permanently swollen and ever since their brief meeting to discuss the prenuptial agreement, he’d spend many a night imagining those lips wrapped around his hard cock. At least that hadn’t been damaged by the landmine.
Josephine’s innocence practically radiated off of her. Her father had informed Kieran that she’d attended a strict boarding school before returning home and now attended college through an online-learning program. Considering her father’s social standing, her isolation seemed suspect, but Kieran didn’t let himself dwell on it too much.
Kieran watched her lips now as she began to speak the words that committed her to the marriage. Committed her to him.
“I-I-I do.” The tremor in her voice was audible.
It was now time to kiss the bride, he heard the priest inform them, and he waited for the moment of revulsion to cross Josephine’s face as she turned to face him, just as it had two weeks ago. But all he saw was slight trepidation as she looked up into his eyes. Her gaze didn’t even wander across his face and onto the scars. She remained looking up at Kieran, focusing intently on his own hazel eyes. Why wasn’t she recoiling?
Irritated by the feelings of confusion her stoic stare caused in him, he wrapped one arm around her waist, whilst grasping the other behind her neck, and firmly pulled her flush against him. Leaning down, he smashed his lips against her perfect mouth. He stiffened as he felt her small hands grasp his biceps.
Kieran expected her to subtly try and push him off her, but inside she melted into his arms. Not only was she not pushing him away, she seemed to be willingly letting him draw her small, soft body against his own. She didn’t even stiffen in his grasp. Her hips pressed against him and as he pulled away from her mouth, he heard a faint sigh escape from her lush lips.
Almost as if she’d enjoyed it.
Aware of their location, he willed himself to step back. He released his wife from his grasp but moved to grasp her hand and turned to walk out of the church. Kieran glanced over at her, amazed to see that a flush had spread across her cheeks and neck. As if she’d relished his touch. No, it was impossible to think that she was anything but repulsed by him. After all, he was a monster.
Nothing more than a beast.

So much for the No Frat Policy.

I hope you enjoy this naughty tease. A little Love in an Elevator…
(sorry, I just got that song stuck in your head for the rest of the day).

Excerpt:

All of a sudden the lights flickered once again, and the lift jerked.

Lexi grabbed my thigh in panic. “Oh God!”

Oh God was right. Any higher and she was going to get a rock-hard handful.

I wound my arms around her, and we held on as the elevator came to shuddering halt. The lights went out entirely, plunging us into complete darkness. The hydraulic hum of the mechanics powering down droned. Then there was silence except for the clicking of the cables.

“Ohhh …” Lexi said in alarm.

“It’s okay. Take it easy,” I reassured her. “The auxiliary lights should come on in a second when the generators kick in.” But seconds ticked by and nothing happened.

“What’s happening?” she asked, her voice warbling.

“Power outage from the storm I’d say. Guess you were right, we should have taken the stairs.”

“Oh boy.” I felt her take a deep shuddering breath. She shifted, centering her back to my chest, and relaxed into me. I tried to maintain some distance, but there was no help for it, with her perfect little ass snugged right up against my upper thighs. There was no way she missed the massive bulge in my pants. She tensed, but she didn’t pull away either.

I inhaled her familiar scent. Another bad idea. It was just as arousing as the rest of her. She smelled fanfuckingtastic.

Her breathing became erratic. I was afraid she was about to panic.

“We’re okay. Relax.” I ran my hands up and down her arms.

She melted into me.

“Do you have your cell phone?” I asked in a tight voice. “We could use it for light. And-or call for help. At least let someone know we’re in here.”

“No, I left mine at the office. You?”

“I think I tossed mine in the briefcase. It’s down here by our feet somewhere.”

A ringing noise made us both jump.

I released her and groped in the dark until I found the little door containing the emergency phone. “Hello?” I answered in a clipped tone.

“What’s your name, and how many are with you?” a gruff voice barked.

“Roger Kent. There are two of us. Myself and my assistant.”

“We’re working on getting you down. Try not to panic.”

“All right, but can you do something about the auxiliary lighting?”

“The generators should engage anytime now. Sit tight.”

“Okay, we’ll sit tight. As if we have a choice,” I said as I hung up.

From the awkward way I’d been leaning, I straightened up slightly, rearranging my hips back into the corner. “We’re gonna be a while,” I said and reached for Lexi. It was pitch black. I couldn’t make out a goddamn thing. “Where’d ya go? Christ, it’s dark.”

“I’m searching for the cell.” Just then my palm made contact with a nicely rounded hip. Oh fuck, she was bent over in front of me. I followed the soft plump curve as she rooted through the briefcase. I closed my eyes and took long, slow inventory of her shapely backside. I stifled a groan, but it escaped as more of a grunt.

Slowly, she straightened and turned in my direction. The low light from my cell screen glowed, illuminating the space between us.

The tension between us was palpable. She stared at me. Her lips parted. I don’t know what she saw in my expression. One of us made a growling sound. I suspect it was me.

Simultaneously, she dropped the phone and reached for me as I grabbed for her. I sought her lips hungrily as the darkness enveloped us once more. She moaned something incoherent into my mouth.

In a wild frenzy, we nipped and sucked at each other’s mouths, our hands roamed free and greedily. My cock lengthened to painful proportions.

Lexi arched into me, her ample breasts pressing against my upper chest. She squirmed as I tried to gather her sweet backside in my greedy hands. Lifting her, I thrust my hips at her, leaving no doubt as to what I wanted.

In answer, she pressed her pelvis against me. The pressure felt amazing, but I wanted more.

“Yeah,” she cried softly. “Yeah …”

Fuck yeah!

Enjoy this excerpt from Eternal Oath:

This time when the colors reformed she saw herself, as though a spotlight shone down on her. She was much younger than she was now, about ten, and wrapped in a woolen blanket. Her hair hung in two long braids which looked frazzled and had loose strands coming out of them. Dirt and twigs clung to her and she was looking into a mirror over a bowl of something from which steam rose. Because of the steam the image wasn’t super clear but Linda could see her younger self’s lips moving…she was saying something.

Even though Linda knew the girl was her, she also knew it was not her. It was as though she were the girl looking into the mirror and at the same time an observer standing in the corner and watching. Instinctively she knew she had to hear what the girl was saying. She stilled and focused her eyes and hearing, harnessing a tranquility that cleared and sharpened her mind. Her breaths came even and deep. And then, as if the volume button had been pressed, she could hear what her dream self was saying.
“You must remember. You must remember. You must remember,” chanted the girl.

But that was all she said with her eyes so large and charcoal-gray as she looked into the mirror. She seemed to be concentrating with all her being on those three words. But those were all she said. After a few more moments Linda became frustrated. Remember what? This girl knew something. She was the key to these horrible dreams she was having, Linda could feel it in her gut. But if she was, why wasn’t she saying more? She waited a few more moments hoping the girl would continue. When she didn’t Linda cried out, “Remember what? Tell me!”

The little girl sucked in a surprised breath and then her dark gaze shifted in the mirror from her own reflection to Linda’s. She seemed amazed to see Linda there but she paused no longer, her words came out in a rush. “You are both in grave danger. Tonight.”

And then the rest of the girl’s words were lost as Linda was pulled to consciousness again, unwillingly this time. As she was swept away she could see the girl’s lips moving but the sound had been turned off again. The image shattered like glass and she woke to Falk gently shaking her by the shoulders.

EXCERPT:

The smell of food bore down sharply on her senses, and she moved swiftly through the trees and brush to follow it. She was almost silent in her footsteps. Her nose and ears told her everything she needed to know.

She stopped and sniffed the air. Then, she lowered herself behind brushes and trees and leaves, the autumn colors hiding her tawny, black, and bits of white perfectly. She waited…

There it was. Dinner. From the west, unaware and getting closer.

The whitetail came into view seconds later, dipping its head to a mountain stream. It was rare that a doe was alone this time of year, but here she was. At the perfect angle.

She lowered herself more, preparing, using her expert hunting skills and knowledge to make the kill. She was very patient.

Then, with a burst of speed and precision, she attacked. The deer realized her fate far too late and only ran but a few yards. Teeth sank into the neck, and within moments, dinner was served.

****

It was the time of year. She just had to hunt more often to work off the extra rush of hormones and need to feed. She was always careful, staying close to or on her vast property. But today was different. She was on a friend’s property, a trusted friend who was out of town for the day. After retrieving her clothes from the porch of the friend’s home, she jogged to her truck and grabbed a pen and paper from the glove box. She wrote a thank you note and IOU for the hunting. Then, she got back to her truck and took off over the mountain to her house…on the dirt back roads.

She couldn’t help but go a bit too fast today, knowing who would be traversing them as well.

The flashing red lights in her rearview as she turned a corner made her grin. She hoped he was in a playful mood this evening—knowing he was on duty had been the reason she’d picked this route home. Her grin widened as a six-foot-two redhead stepped out of his own truck to walk to hers.

She rolled her window down.

The fair-skinned man grinned back as he rested his arms on the door. “Cilla Walton, you know better than to drive that fast on this road.”

Her blue eyes met his brown ones. “Aw, come on, Riley.” She tried to look as sincere as possible. “I was only doing fifty/fifty-five.”

He chuckled. “On a forty mile an hour road.”

She laughed softly, loving the scent rolling off of him. She knew he was smelling her as well. “Riley Cooper, are you going to give me a ticket?”

He leaned in the window about an inch, inhaling. His grin turned wicked, suggesting all sorts of tempting things. She tried not to visibly shiver.

She won.

“Not tonight, I’m afraid. I’m heading for my parents’ house for dinner with them and my brothers. As you know, my mom’s birthday is tomorrow.”

“Yes. I have something for her,” she replied. “I’m also taking her shopping over in Burlington in the morning, with Ginger and my sister Cat.”

“Dad talked to you.”

She nodded. “We’ll be back before dinner, around four-thirty.”

He leaned against her door and reached a hand in to move stray strands of her tawny-colored hair behind her ear. “You’ve been out hunting…and you got the kill.”

She smiled softly. “Of course I did.”

“Over at Ram and Mara’s?”

She nodded.

“Yeah, Ram mentioned you asked permission to hunt on his and Mara’s land. Why?”

She shrugged. “I just wanted a different place to hunt—the deer near my house are getting suspicious.” She winked.

He chuckled.

Shiver, shiver, shiver… She managed to hide the shiver, but not the scent it caused. Damn autumn air.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, then?”

“Yes, you will. And by the way,” she said as he stepped away from the door while she put it back in gear, “you smell edible.”

He grinned. “So do you, babe. And I plan on remedying that soon.”

Dillon

I know I’m hot stuff, not only am I in the hottest boy band, Right Time, I’m young, good looking and rich. What more could I want? I never sleep with a woman more than once and I’m the first to admit I’m a manwhore, but when I meet Ashlyn Dobbs and she joins the tour for a week I start to rethink what I really want.

Ashlyn

I’m on my first overseas vacation. I intend to spend a little over a week with my best friend who is a back-up dancer for the hottest boyband. When the tour flies to America I’m going to go off exploring on my own for two weeks. Well, that was the plan, until I met Dillon from Right Time.
Can you fall in love in such a short time? Will a long distance relationship work between Ashlyn and Dillon?

Zeck-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-finalcoverZeck

Zeck

I’d thought I was happy. Being a part of the world famous boy band Right Time meant lots of travelling and endless girls at my fingertips. But watching Dillon settle with one woman has me rethinking my life. I realized how out of control I was. When Jas took me to a BDSM club I discovered a way to take some control back. Then I saw her. Bound in rope and I knew I had to have her. What I didn’t see was the other woman watching me, nor did I realise the scandal she’d cause.

Issy

I’d discovered so much about myself in my year working in Paris. Learning I was sexually submissive was the most important. I knew when I returned to Australia I was going to miss the BDSM club that had become a second home. When the owner asked to use me in a demonstration I agreed quickly. I loved being bound and he was a master with rope. I’d had no idea how much that one choice would change my life so completely.

law-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-finalimageLaw

Law

Being in the internationally successful boy band Right Time had been everything I had ever wanted and more. Well, except for one thing, or should I say one person, but I had long ago acknowledged that I couldn’t have both and to be happy with what I had. That was until he showed up in my life again. And then nothing made sense.

Byron

For years I had pretended I didn’t care. Ignoring my feelings had become second nature to me. That was until my niece begged me to take her to see her favourite boy band Right Time for her birthday and I came face to face with him. In all fairness, she had no idea the can of worms she’d be opening. And in all honesty, neither did I.

Alec-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-finalcoverAlec

Alec
My life was so perfect before all the guys started falling in love. Now I’m the only one not hooked up. Being famous, rich and young should be enough I know, but I wouldn’t mind finding someone who looks beyond my muscles and bank balance.
Joanne
My life was on track. I was close to finishing my University degree, I had enough money to get by and I was happy. That was until I met Right Time’s singer, Alec. The playboy managed to get himself drugged right in front of me, and I couldn’t just do nothing! That’s when my life became far more complicated.
Will the young doctor-to-be be able to resist one of the hottest boys on the planet?

Barclay is part of a group of friends financing the efforts to put a stop to The Madeline Project. The program now has a mind of its own, thanks to a virus called Tommy Twister. These men have power, resources, and money, but they’re as ruthless and possessive as the storms ravaging Earth.

They call themselves the Weathermen…

ADULT EXCERPT

He stroked her palm, and when she didn’t pull her hand away, hope began to build. He wanted to push the emotion away and stop this, but he couldn’t. This girl had captivated him, and he was powerless in her presence.

“Why do you say that? Why do you think you need to?”

She gazed at him with dry eyes now, filled with clarify and purpose. “Because I’m ready to move on. I’m ready to start living again. I don’t want to dishonor his memory, but he’d want me to be happy and I’m not. I don’t mean in my work. I love my work. I mean…”

He sighed because he knew exactly what she meant. “You mean you’re lonely, right? Your days are filled with meaningful things to do, but then at night, when the fake sun goes down, the dark creeps in and you wish you could change everything about your life, but you don’t know how or where to start.”

She stared at him as if he had lobsters crawling on his face. “How did you do that?” she whispered. “How did you reach into my head and nail it, just like that?”

“Because I feel the same way, Rissa.”

“But … forgive me, but you’re in the tabloids constantly. You’re never without a date.”

“It’s a ruse. I don’t want to be that person any longer.”

She looked really uncomfortable, glanced at the pitcher, which was nearly empty, and pulled her hand out of his grasp. Then she pushed her margarita glass away. “Guess we’ve both had enough to drink.”

“I’m not drunk. And I’m sorry if you feel I’ve said too much. You’re very easy to be with and talk to.”

“You talk to people all the time, Barclay.”

He took her hand again, unable to stop himself. He wanted this woman, and he knew she wanted him, too. He could feel it in the air, hanging between them, and it wasn’t the tequila talking. “Yes, I do, but there’s something about you that has me spellbound, Rissa.”

She definitely wasn’t drunk, but then neither was he, and as she pulled her hand away again and rose, he realized he needed to tell her that.

“Barclay, don’t misunderstand me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work on this project with you, but I have no intentions of becoming your next conquest. I think we need to make some coffee or drink some water, or something. Then we should get back to work.”

She picked up the pitcher and their glasses, and he followed her into the kitchen. “I’m not drunk.”

“Good to know.”

“Rissa, you want me as much as I want you.”

He saw her back stiffen, and then watched her place the pitcher and glasses on the counter, but she didn’t turn to face him.

“You do, don’t you?” He spoke softly now, not wanting to frighten her.

“Not the point.”

“It’s exactly the point.”

“I’m not going to do this.” Her voice shook, but not from fear. She was as aroused as he was.

“Why not?”

“I told you.”

“I don’t want to conquer you. I just want to make love to you.”

“You don’t even know me.”

“You’re worked for me almost a year. I do know you.”

She finally turned to face him, and his damn dick was so hard now it was painful. The look on her face made him want to hold her for the rest of his life.

“The last man I had sex with was Harry. That was over seven years ago.”

He hadn’t expected that. Barclay’s feet finally worked, and he moved toward her slowly. When he reached where she stood, he resisted the urge to simply pull her into his arms. Instead he placed a hand on each shoulder, and the shaky intake of her breath tugged at his heart. She blinked against wet eyes again, and he hoped like hell it wasn’t because she suddenly wished she was anywhere but here.

“Then I will be very, very careful.”

by Libby Bishop

Revenant Investigations Book 2

Blurb:

Empath and paranormal investigator Lena Tompson is enjoying a night of relaxation when she’s interrupted by a phone call from her boss. She hurries to the office, still in her pajamas, and finds herself face to face with the once love-of-her-life.

Knox Trenton, also an empath, has a problem: his beloved great grandmother has accidently conjured the spirit of her dead sister while trying to find the spirit of her dearly departed husband, who died decades earlier. The sisters have fought bitterly since his death.

As the case heats up, so do Lena’s feelings for Knox. She doesn’t know how long she can hold back the tide of emotions, especially when she realizes that Knox has feelings for her as well. She can only hope that trusting him doesn’t tear her apart as deeply as his own family will be torn if they fail to stop the fighting.

Excerpt:

Oh, how Lena Tompson wished she was still at home, curled up on the couch watching Pride and Prejudice—the Colin Firth version, of course—instead of at the Revenant Investigations office for an emergency meeting. But that wish wasn’t going to come true. When her boss, Folger, had called they all knew to come immediately. She had and now Knox Trenton, the former love-of-her-life, sat in her boss’s office with his forehead creased from worry.

“I’m very sorry to drag you all here at this hour,” Knox said. “But there’s an emergency at Trenton House.”

Arabella Pierce—coworker, medium, and Lena’s best friend—spoke up. “What do you mean?” she asked.

Knox rubbed his eyes. Lena could feel just how worried he was. Having grown up with and seriously dated Knox, she knew this wasn’t normal for him. Something had to be dreadfully wrong in order for him to be bleeding emotions so strongly. As a high-level empath, he was very good at guarding himself, unless unduly stressed or tired.

Lena reached out with her own empathic gifts to search his feelings, and a brick wall slammed down.

“Nana has done something,” he replied, dread lightly imbedded in his tone.

Oh, dear. When his great-grandmother did something to earn that tone of voice it normally meant another feud was brewing with someone, probably a family member. The elderly spitfire was too fiery for her own good, at times. “What did Imogene do?”

“You both know the story of my great-grandmother and her twin sister, Ruth.”

“Hard to forget,” Arabella replied.

While the story was well known, not many knew the details as Lena and Arabella did. He’d told them in Junior High. And a hell of a story it was.

He turned to Folger. “I’m going to tell you the story, but I ask that you keep it to yourself, for your records. This is a very sensitive issue.”

Folger raised his hand. “What you tell us goes no further than this room.”

Knox sighed. “Thank you. My great-aunt Ruth conjured my great-grandpa Duke’s spirit when he died of a heart attack in his mid-thirties. She wanted to punish her sister for allowing him into the family and betraying her. Their father trusted Duke and had learned to love him as a son, so he willed Trenton House to Duke and Nana. Ruth was furious with her sister for allowing such a thing, saying she was betrayed, even though their father left her and her husband well over five hundred thousand dollars and the country house at the edge of town.” He paused, sighing. “Most of the family believes her objection was solely about Duke’s name being put on the house. I think it’s safe to say if it had been just Nana’s name on the deed, Ruth wouldn’t have been so vehement about the whole thing.”

Lena had been to that country house a few times—a beautiful home, on a lovely four-acre plot of land. But Duke being willed Trenton House and watching it fall into his hands, even with Imogene there, had only been the beginning––the spark, to ignite the rest of the Trentons’ sisterly feud.

Lena had seen no real ‘ill will’ between Knox and his cousins, but their parents… Well, there was a reason she never liked going to the family get-togethers. Their barely veiled animosity was like ice, cracking against her skin. Knox tried to shield her from most of it, but the intensity was too great for him to block it all. Lena tolerated events the best she could, but finally admitted they’d taken a toll on her, and her view of their relationship.

“And no one knows where Ruth trapped Duke’s spirit,” Arabella said, leaning back against the couch and crossing her legs. “Ruth took that information to the grave.” “Knox,” Folger said, “tell them what Imogene did.”

Hesitation lightly touched the air, held clear in his dark brown eyes when he glanced at her. All thoughts of their past momentarily fled when Lena saw it—something was very wrong, all right, and worry twisted her gut. “Knox?”

He fidgeted in his chair, until he settled for sitting with his back completely straight as if someone had pulled a string upward, and rested his hands on the arms of the chair.

“Nana…raided Ruth’s crypt at our family’s private cemetery and stole a necklace from her coffin.”

Lena’s mouth dropped in shock. “She did what?”
