Welcome friends old and new. I’m glad you came. Today, I’m sharing from my debut, TAKING CHANCES.
Taking Chances is the first in a series of books I’m calling The Love Projects. Taking Chances is the story of Lydia and Jake. The blurb and cover are below. In Previous Weeks: Jake and Lydia entered the room where they’ll be working together. Jake’s already had to take a cold shower break. LAST WEEK: Jake’s finger removed a smudge of barbecue sauce from Lydia’s mouth and Lydia shocked them both by licking his finger clean. THIS WEEK: I’ve skipped nothing.
“I’m sorry, I just…” She stopped talking and turned her gaze to the table. “Thank you,” she said without looking at him. “I hate it when someone sees a way to help and they ignore it instead.”
Her mind reeled at the possible implications of his touch or her bold reaction. Maybe smudges of food bothered him. Maybe he was being considerate. The possibilities sounded right, but his eyes didn’t have the look of a gentleman.
<~ You can <tweet that> last line if you want. There are endless possibilities, but reality is staring her right in the face. Jake wants her. I know she can see it now, but does she believe it? Come back next week and find out what she does next OR find those buy links below and find out today. 🙂

5 Star Review: “Taking Chances, is a must read for anyone who wants a great story, well written, smoking hot smexy scenes and an oh so hot hero.”
5 Star Review: ”Taking Chances is SJ Maylee’s debut novel and she does an excellent job of creating interesting characters searching for connection while providing enough kink and spice to heat things up.”
5 Star Review: “it’s well written, there’s no slw moments and it’s packed full of hot sexual tension”
BLURB:
Lydia’s father walked away from her when she was eight. She’s struggled to not let him affect her, but fears she wasn’t loveable enough to make him stay. Jake wants to
love one woman, but after scaring the last woman he met outside of the club, he doubts he has the right. She protects her heart by sticking with her fantasies, and he lives by a set of rules that excludes women who choose a vanilla lifestyle.
The two will be kept in a conference room working together until their special project is complete. If Lydia and Jake hold tight to their bland lives, they’ll always yearn for love that is out of reach. But together they can find common ground, passion, and a reason to take chances. Once they discover the grand possibilities of the love they desire, they find themselves in the very place they tried never to be again, facing unguaranteed love.

I love her thought processes and the uncertainty behind her instinctive action. Lovely.
Thank you, Gemma. This is an important turning point for both of them.
Love the mixed messages of his behavior and the line, his eyes didn’t have the look of a gentleman.
Thanks, Cara. 🙂
My mind would have been reeling too after removing the smudge of BBQ sauce and then licking it clean. Very HOT visual, he is definitely not a gentleman, thank goodness. 🙂 Great snippet. Love the cover, too.
I know, right! Lol, he is definitely more than capable of not being a gentleman. Thanks, Maddie.
“his eyes didn’t have the look of a gentleman.” Um, no… I’m certain that they didn’t..
Nope. Not with her exposing her wicked ways. 🙂
Love it when a char performs a sexy action (licking his finger) and then doubts themselves. And you nailed it with his nongentlemanly look. Yummy!
It was all on instinct too. Definitely a big step for her. Thanks, J.A. 🙂
This made me smile. Great eight!
Thank you. 🙂
Oh, the tension is building between these too. Will she jump or take it slow? Good 8 S.J.!
History Sleuth’s Milk Carton Murders
Yeah! Thank you. 🙂
She still can’t quite believe it, can she? Maybe he needs to be a little more, uh, straightforward? 😉
(I completely forgot to sign up for WeWriWa, but my post is up, anyway, if you have the time)
Nope, she can’t, lol. I agree, Sarah. 🙂
Thanks for letting me know, Sarah. I found you.
Well, lots of possible implications for her to mull over all right! I also enjoyed the line about his eyes. Really a well done excerpt, can’t wait for more!
Sweet. Thank you, Veronica. 🙂
I liked her inner thoughts. Lots to think about. Great 8!
Definitely. She’s got the cha-cha thinking going on, lol. Thanks, Karen. 🙂
A very real reaction to a very instinctive behavior. Well handled!!
Yeah. Thank you, Sarah. 😀
sexy 8 and her thoughts show so much. I loved reading this book
Wow, I’m so glad. Thank you, Michelle. 😀
The eyes don’t lie. Nice!
Thanks, Elaine. 🙂
Great job in showing her doubt and uncomfortableness!!
Thank you, Angela. 🙂
Now maybe they can finally stop hesitating and start moving forward…
Her ‘what did I just do?’ reaction feels very real. Nicely done. 🙂
Awesome snippet filled with visual clues and so much suppressed emotion.
“His eyes didn’t have the look of a gentleman” <<That's amazing. Fab snippet!
I like those non-gentlemanly looks. Good snippet, SJ. 🙂
I love how unsure she is. And I love the last line. I just bought the book and cannot wait to read it! Great 8!
Mixed signals are so hard to deal with. She is going to need to be patient with him.
